McGennis Youth Center

McGennis Youth Center Contact us at (417) 563-7015. The final night of the run also includes an old fashioned carry-in picnic dinner just prior to the play.

This charming agricultural youth center has two special summer events: First, in mid-August, the "Old Barn Theater Under the Stars" features a three night run of a comedy play starring all local talent. You definitely will enjoy this entertainment! On the last Sunday in September you can attend the McGennis Youth Center BBQ and Benefit Auction. While it is a major contributor to the operational f

unding of this facility, it is also an enjoyable afternoon of fun, food, and the opportunity to buy handcrafts, baked goods, and a variety of gift certificates for merchandise and services, all donated to the center. Other events include Movie Night Under the Stars, a Jack-O-Lantern Walk, Hayrides, and much, much more!

We are excited to announce that The Mary A. McGennis Agriculture Park & Youth Center has been awarded a $6,100 grant from the Missouri Humanities Council for the project, Living History & Learning: Interpreting Rural Heritage.

This project will help preserve and share the rich history of our center and community through:
• New interpretive signage at the historic schoolhouse and chapel
• Immersive “Day in the Life” living history experiences during our Annual BBQ and a new spring event
• Accessibility enhancements to improve visitor access and engagement

The Missouri Humanities Council is the only statewide agency dedicated exclusively to humanities education for Missourians of all ages and has served as Missouri’s affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities since 1971.

We are grateful for this investment in preserving local history and creating meaningful educational experiences for future generations.

For more information about the grants program of the Missouri Humanities Council, call 314/781-9660 or 800/357-0909 or email [email protected]
