McGennis Youth Center Contact us at (417) 563-7015. The final night of the run also includes an old fashioned carry-in picnic dinner just prior to the play.

This charming agricultural youth center has two special summer events: First, in mid-August, the "Old Barn Theater Under the Stars" features a three night run of a comedy play starring all local talent. You definitely will enjoy this entertainment! On the last Sunday in September you can attend the McGennis Youth Center BBQ and Benefit Auction. While it is a major contributor to the operational funding of this facility, it is also an enjoyable afternoon of fun, food, and the opportunity to buy handcrafts, baked goods, and a variety of gift certificates for merchandise and services, all donated to the center. Other events include Movie Night Under the Stars, a Jack-O-Lantern Walk, Hayrides, and much, much more!

Thank you to the Missouri Department of Conservation agent Brad Addisen for coming out today. We had a small but eager group of kids learning different pelts, calls, practicing archery and fishing on the lake.

Looking forward to another fun time outdoors!

Remember fishing is free year round (adults are required to have a fishing license).

Thank you Blessed and Baking for the delicious cookies for today’s event!

McGennis Youth Center was designed to be shared by all, and that’s part of what makes this place so special. 🌿

Come and enjoy it as you are—a place to connect with each other, our local history, and nature.

Our board and volunteers continue to work hard to make McGennis a welcoming and accessible space for everyone. One of our most recent improvements was an accessibility update to our historic one-room schoolhouse.

Much of the funding for this project was provided through a Missouri Humanities grant. In addition to the new accessibility ramp, the columns on the front porch were stabilized and replaced to help preserve this special piece of our history for years to come.

If you haven’t stepped inside the schoolhouse, you’re missing out! With beautiful murals painted by one of our board members and displays sharing the history of one-room schoolhouses, it truly feels like taking a step back in time. ❤️

Preserving the past while making sure everyone has the opportunity to experience it.
