There’s something special about the town-gown partnership between Denison University and the Village of Granville, Ohio. This summer, three exceptional Denison students helped MagLiteracy turn local connections into our largest literacy distribution ever—reaching near 1.5 million children and families across 13 states and beyond.

It’s also a reminder of the historic strength of colleges like Denison that dot communities across Ohio and the Midwest and beyond. For generations, these institutions have helped surrounding communities become centers of learning, culture, service, and innovation—creating lasting connections between campuses and the places they call home.

A wonderful example of what happens when campus and community come together for good.

Thanks to the help of Denison University students (from left) Mari Meeks, Maddie Gaines and Emily Monachino, MagLiteracy this summer accomplished its single largest distribution initiative.

A gale force, a blizzard, a vortex passed through the Magazine Literacy Bank at the Atrium Warehouse last night, culminating a summer literacy push, with the Granville Blue Aces Soccer Team processing over 35 tons of 85,000 magazines in 3 hours.

This on top of the outstanding outreach work of our three Denison University interns - Emily, Maddie, and Mari, launching the single largest distribution initiative in MagLiteracy’s history.

60 pallets of magazines were delivered to a humanitarian partner serving communities across 13 Appalachian states, while another 20 pallets are being distributed by our logistics partner, Millcraft, to literacy programs in Lexington Kentucky, Cincinnati, Dayton, Toledo, Cleveland, Southern Ohio, Fort Wayne Indiana, Madison Wisconsin and more.

Together, these distributions will place high-quality reading materials like Highlights for Children and National Geographic and The Sun and more into the hands and homes of more than a half-million readers - children and families in some of the highest needs regions of the USA.

At MagLiteracy.org, we ❤️ magazines that go out the back door…

…of the libraries, consumer homes and cars, and even pet shops, like Simply Spoiled Pets in Granville/Newark and Half Price Books for delivery to new readers, food pantries and literacy programs in high needs communities from our Magazine Literacy Bank.

The magazines we love and collect define our greatest passions and offer literacy superpowers to high needs communities.

Literacy ends poverty of the mind, heart, and pocket.

2 billion magazines are printed every year in the USA. At MagLiteracy, we want every copy for sustainable literacy.

It takes an industry from pulp to paper, to printer, to publisher, to consumer to reach a child or family or mentoring or job training program or homebound senior or veteran. This is how we feed people hungry to read at the largest magazine literacy moonshot in the world.

With titles for every age, enthusiasm, professional aspiration, and language, print magazines are the most powerful literacy engines on earth - uniquely effective for teaching, mentoring, training, and learning.
