We’re proud to celebrate Mel Archer as our June Featured Artist.

Many in our community know Mel not only for his fused-glass Impressionism, but as a dedicated leader and champion for the arts in Redmond. As board president of Dry Canyon Arts Association for the past four years, Mel has helped guide the organization through tremendous growth, from a small group of artists to a thriving creative community of hundreds.

His artwork carries that same spirit of commitment. In his studio outside Redmond, surrounded by sagebrush, juniper, and views of the Deschutes River, Mel creates pieces filled with light, color, patience, and a deep love for Central Oregon.

See Mel’s work during June at the Dry Canyon Community Art Center, and join us for a celebration during First Friday Art Walk on Friday, June 5, from 5 to 8 pm.

Join the Dry Canyon Arts family.

Around here, art is more than something we hang on a wall. It’s how neighbors meet, students find confidence, families spend time together, artists cheer each other on, and a whole community gets a little more colorful.

When you become a Dry Canyon Arts Association member, you’re helping support the creative circle that makes all of that possible: local exhibits, art education, First Friday Art Walk, classes, artist opportunities, volunteer energy, and a welcoming place for people of all ages to connect through art.

Annual membership is $50, college students are $25, and students under 18 join for free.

Artists, art lovers, parents, grandparents, students, volunteers, and curious neighbors are all welcome here. Come be part of the family.

One more big thank you to Molly Freitag, our May Featured Artist.
This month, Molly shared paintings shaped by light, water, movement, healing, and change. Her work reflects a life spent in both creativity and service, as a painter, chaplain, art therapy writer, and longtime Central Oregon arts community member.

We’re grateful for artists like Molly, who remind us that art can comfort, challenge, open, and connect us. We’re also grateful that this exhibit supports young artists and art education right here in our region.

The proceeds of this exhibit will go to DCAA on behalf of Redmond elementary and middle school art programs.

Step into Emerging and Established, our May gallery exhibit celebrating the creative range of Central Oregon.

This show brings together high school student artists, ceramists, the Sagebrushers Art Society of Bend, and our May Featured Artist, Molly Freitag. Together, these artists create a beautiful conversation between fresh perspective, skilled hands, bold ideas, and years of creative practice.

Molly’s abstract paintings shimmer with water, light, movement, and healing. Even better, sales of her artwork support DCAA on behalf of Redmond elementary and middle school art programs.

Come wander the gallery, discover emerging voices, celebrate established artists, and feel what happens when a whole community makes room for art.

Molly Freitag’s creative life has unfolded across many forms.

She has studied at Ventura College, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the Fine Arts Center School at the DeYoung Museum, along with years of classes, workshops, and creative exploration in clay, costume design, calligraphy, and watermedia.

But Molly’s story is not only about art training. It is also about service. Her background includes chaplaincy, hospice work, bereavement classes, art therapy, public speaking, spiritual writing, and the tender work of helping people move through illness, grief, and change.

That full life shows up in her paintings. They are abstract, organic, and filled with movement, but they also hold something deeply human: the need for beauty, comfort, transformation, and breath.
