Meet our November Featured Artist, Karin Harris! 🎨

There's something remarkable about the way light transforms a landscape. The soft glow of morning mist, shadows stretching across a quiet road, or the afternoon sun illuminating the rugged cliffs of Smith Rock. For watercolor artist Karin Harris, these fleeting moments are where inspiration begins.

Karin's beautiful watercolor paintings capture the colors, atmosphere, and emotion of the natural world, inviting us to slow down and notice the beauty happening all around us.

With decades of experience as an artist, gallery owner, and art educator, Karin has developed a remarkable ability to balance the precision of watercolor painting with its unpredictable, flowing nature. Her work reflects a lifetime of curiosity, creative exploration, and a deep appreciation for the places she's called home.

Now living and painting in Redmond, Karin finds inspiration in Central Oregon's junipers, canyon landscapes, open skies, and ever-changing light.

Your creative side called. It wants to make some plans for November! 🎨✨

The Dry Canyon Community Art Center has a colorful lineup of classes this month, and we can't wait to see what everyone creates!

Whether you've always wanted to learn watercolor, are curious about printmaking, or love the idea of making your own holiday decorations and gifts, there's something at the art table for you.

Here's a peek at what's coming up:

🎨 Beginning & Intermediate Watercolor: Build your confidence, practice new techniques, and discover just how much fun painting can be.

✂️ Paper Quilling: Turn simple strips of colorful paper into delicate snowflakes, angels, and poinsettias.

🖼️ Intro to Block Printing: Learn to carve and print your own original designs.

🌼 Day of the Dead Ofrenda: Create a meaningful, personalized keepsake inspired by Día de los Mu***os traditions.

🎄 Painted Ornaments: Add your own artistic touch to the holidays with hand-painted keepsakes.

🧵 Misfit Pillow Makeover: Give something old a whole new personality through creative reuse!

And we're already looking forward to December's holiday card painting workshops.

One of our favorite things about these classes is watching people connect over creativity. New friendships form, ideas get shared, and students discover skills they didn't know they had.

You don't have to be an experienced artist to get involved. There are options for beginners, developing artists, and those simply looking for a fun creative outing.

At the Dry Canyon Arts Fall Art Show & Sale, celebrating local creativity goes hand in hand with supporting art education.

Join us November 14 and 15 at our new location, Obsidian Middle School, for two days of incredible art, talented local makers, and community connection.

You'll find original artwork, handmade treasures, and plenty of opportunities to meet the artists who created them. Plus, we're bringing back one of our favorite traditions: the art raffle!

Our generous artists donate pieces for the raffle, with proceeds benefiting Jumpstart Art, DCAA's program that helps bring hands-on visual art education into Redmond elementary classrooms.

Every raffle ticket helps create opportunities for children to explore color, discover new skills, build confidence, and experience the joy of making art.

And while you're here, browse for a special holiday gift or discover a piece that belongs in your own home.

Mary Wonser’s creative life has been shaped by curiosity, learning, and a deep love of fiber.

She learned to knit at age 12 and made Barbie doll clothes in college for extra spending money. A high school friend’s mother had a loom, and Mary never forgot the fascination of seeing it. In the mid-1980s, she took a class in Southwest-style weaving at Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado, and a lifelong path opened.
Though Mary earned a degree in elementary education at Valparaiso University, her passion for weaving kept her seeking out workshops in New Mexico, Oregon, and beyond.

That love of learning still shows in her work. Her pieces carry knowledge, patience, experimentation, and a willingness to keep growing. They also carry her generous belief that fiber art should be shared, demonstrated, taught, and celebrated.

Now THAT was a roaring good time! 🥂✨

Our first-ever Dry Canyon Arts Association Speakeasy Fundraiser was a roaring success, and we’re still smiling about the incredible evening!

The casino was packed, the cocktails were flowing thanks to Gompers Distillery, and All Elements Catering kept everyone well-fed with a delicious buffet. The talented Steve Thorp and Kimberly Rogers brought the music, setting the perfect mood for a night full of 1920s flair, laughter, and celebration.

But the best part? Seeing our community come together to support something we all believe in: making art and art education accessible to more people right here in Redmond.

From our generous supporters and talented entertainers to the volunteers who helped bring this event to life, we are so grateful. Your enthusiasm helps us continue growing programs like Jumpstart Art, expanding creative opportunities, and building a stronger arts community.

Thank you for making our inaugural fundraiser such a memorable night! Here's to more art, more connection, and many more reasons to celebrate together. 🥂
