Join this intriguing conversation with Ken Edgar, Master Beekeeper, to understand the power, presence, and purpose of the honey bees. Honey bees play a crucial role in pollinating crops and supporting global food supplies, yet their populations continue to decline because of interconnected environmental, agricultural, and biological challenges. Addressing this issue calls for a combination of strategies, including improved beekeeping practices, limiting pesticide exposure, restoring natural habitats, and strengthening ecosystems against climate change. Ken will even share his story of how his bees were stolen in what's legally known as bee wresting.

Bio:
After retiring from the Army, Ken Edgar was an instructor at the community college and established his own tree company. Beekeeping was an escape from the busyness of the world. Ken is a Master Beekeeper and the founder of The Honey Bee Farm at White Heron Retreat in Columbus County, NC. Ken turned a 20-year hobby into a full-time passion. In retirement, it is his full-time passion and an integral part of his nature retreat. In order to help the drastically declining bee population, Ken is making a concerted effort to help new keepers be as successful as possible.

Bruce Ladebu spent his early years as a professional adventurer, explorer, guide, and instructor. While traveling through the newly formed ex-Soviet countries in 1993, he learned about human trafficking. Later, Bruce went underground in Eastern Europe to investigate further. What he found was disturbing and beyond his ability to comprehend. Finally, in 2009, Bruce was taken to slave fields in western Asia, where he witnessed countless people working in hard labor. Before the end of the day, he rescued his first child. Soon after returning to the US, Bruce knew it was his lifelong mission to rescue children and adults from labor slavery and s*x trafficking. To pursue that mission, he founded Children’s Rescue Initiative. Children’s Rescue Initiative (CRI) is more than an awareness campaign; it’s a movement actively fighting the human trafficking epidemic. Over the past 10 years, CRI’s highly skilled rescue teams have relentlessly fought for freedom, having rescued victims from around the world and supported them on the road to freedom.

Some moments are heavy, filled with loss, fear, and pain that children shouldn’t have to face alone.

A compassionate community chooses to notice, to stand beside them, and to lift them up when life feels impossible. 💙

No child should navigate hardship in silence.

Let’s continue building spaces where every child feels safe, supported, and seen.

Compassion doesn’t always look grand or dramatic.
Sometimes it’s a hand held tightly, a child feeling safe, or a moment that reminds someone they are not alone. 💙

The kindness we show today shapes the world children grow up in tomorrow.
Every child deserves love, protection, and people willing to stand beside them through life’s hardest moments.

This Child Abuse Prevention Month, let’s continue passing compassion forward in ways that truly change lives.

Some gave everything so future generations could live in freedom. 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to remember the courage, sacrifice, and selflessness of the men and women who never made it home.

May we honor their legacy not only with words, but with gratitude, compassion, and the way we live each day.
