What Is Happening in Hollywood?
This is a tough time to work in the industry. There are fewer job opportunities, some jobs are slowly transferring to AI, and studios are either shrinking, closing, or merging. Veterans have been watching the system slowly unravel over the years as film and TV production became decentralized, but now there is a whole new generation of aspiring filmmakers, screenwriters and actors who have been waiting their entire lives to pursue a career in entertainment. And while they have options when it comes to cities where they can live and work, the competition is fierce.
But there is another side to the news headlines.
Because while these changes are real, there is something happening beneath the surface—Christian media professionals are finally being recognized in the mainstream marketplace. Shows like The Chosen and House of David are the top shows on streaming platforms. Sunrise Animation’s movie “David” became the #1 film on Netflix.
Years ago, news like this would be considered a “pipe dream.” Christians have waited long enough for a seat at the table, and now we are there.
Furthermore, indie filmmaking has come a long way. Filming equipment and training are more accessible, people are figuring out how to raise the funds, and there are more and more people getting their own cameras, writing their own scripts, making their own short films and web series, and uploading online. Independent storytelling is booming, and Christian filmmakers are right there, telling redemptive stories for the world to see and hear.
But you won’t hear much about what Christians are doing in media from The Hollywood Reporter or Deadline. You also won’t hear about mainstream media news with a faith-based lens. Thankfully, we have a solution…
