Founded in 1960, the Agency is one of the leading providers of community-based behavioral health and special education in Central New Jersey and one of the only organizations in t

he region that offers subsidized care. The goal of all treatment and services is to support every person in their desire to live the best life possible in the least restrictive setting within their families and communities. The result for CPC clients -- a dramatic reduction in the need for inappropriate and costly use of emergency services, frequent inpatient hospitalizations or worse, incarceration for crimes committed because their mental health and substance abuse needs have not been addressed. CPC’s mission is to serve our communities by delivering evidence-based services in mental health, substance use, special education and physical health through an integrated system of care designed to promote wellness, recovery and productive lives. The Agency is responsive to the needs of the communities we serve with an emphasis on the needs of the most vulnerable in the planning and implementation of our services.

Spotlighting our honorees as we count down to our 65th Anniversary Celebration on June 25!

We are proud to honor Commissioner Susan Kiley with the Spirit of Partnership Award for her steadfast leadership, collaboration, and commitment to strengthening the health and well-being of Monmouth County residents. Pete Bellew has been a dedicated CPC staff member working in our Facilities and Maintenance Department for 25 years. Growing up in Harlem, The Bronx, and later Matawan alongside his three brothers and sister, Pete has a lifetime of layered stories that could fill a novel. On the topic of men’s mental health, Pete has a story to tell if you are ever lucky enough to stop and listen. And if you already know Pete, then you probably already know of his commitment to mental health and the well-being of our nation’s veterans. Pete’s passion is personal. His brother Michael proudly served our country during the Vietnam War, and returning home years later, the long-term effects of Agent Orange, combined with the stresses of war, sadly eventually took their toll. In honor of his brother’s memory and service, Pete creates handcrafted guitars out of cigar boxes and then donates the pieces to charitable causes throughout our community. Pictured here is his latest creation being donated to The Tunnels To Towers Foundation.

This Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, Pete reminds us that healing can take many forms—through conversation, creativity, service to others, and honoring those we love. Thank you, Pete, for sharing your story.
