Today, we join the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJFoundation) to launch the Artichoke Credit Union, a credit union designed with and for the disability community.

Its name is inspired by Ed V. Roberts, a pioneer in the independent living movement. When Roberts, who contracted polio at age 14, overheard a doctor tell his mother that Roberts would be a “vegetable” if he survived, Roberts declared that he “decided to be an artichoke –‘a little prickly on the outside but with a big heart.’”"
