Just as those in The DFC community find others to lean on, the support of our sponsors helps us positively transform the lives of those living with T1D.

We’re so grateful for sponsors like Abbott whose support helps us create a world where those living with T1D and their families can thrive.

Introducing “Camp Memories” – A new content spotlight where campers and counselors can share their favorite moments from camp!

Here’s Rachel’s favorite moment from her Bravehearts year this past summer:

“One of my favorite camp memories is the hike and campout at Hanging Rock that the Bravehearts get to do!

It was hot out and tiring, but the view when we made it to the top was gorgeous and so worth the hard work we put in. Of course, doing it with all of my friends made it even better!

Even more memorable than the hike was when we got back to our campsite, it started raining, and we were hiding in our tents as the rainwater came in, soaking us (along with our sleeping bags and pillows!).

We had to get picked up by a bus and taken back to camp, where the power was out and we spent the night sleeping in new sleeping bags on the gym floor.

Even though the campout didn't go exactly as we planned, it still made for a super fun and memorable experience as well as a VERY good story to tell my friends back home.”

Meet Jason, our new Operations Manager! 🎉

Jason’s journey with T1D started at age 7 when he attended diabetes camp for the very first time. He credits that first summer with instilling the positive mindset that has guided him through a full, exciting life with T1D ever since.

Over the last 20+ years, Jason’s connection to camp has come full circle: From camper, to counselor, to DFC Board Member, and now Operations Manager!

Now, Jason is stepping into his new role with a simple goal: to ensure the next generation of kids and families get the exact same supportive, empowering environment that meant so much to him growing up.

A few fun facts about Jason:
🍬Go-to low snacks: Classic apple juice & peanut butter crackers.
💐Family lavender field: When he’s not keeping our operations running smoothly, he and his wife, Elizabeth, run a "You-Pick" Lavender harvest every June at their family farm in Rutherfordton, NC.

We are beyond thrilled to have Jason’s heart, history, and expertise leading our operations. Join us in giving him a warm welcome in the comments! ✨

“Caregiver Real Talk” takes place virtually tomorrow (Wed.) 8/12 at 11 am and is a safe space for caregivers to share what’s on their mind, refuel their PMA, and know they’re not alone. That’s the power of community in action!

We hope to see you there! If you can’t make it, consider contributing to our community content to share your perspective for those who could relate!
