Rotary Club of Longboat Key is a welcoming, vibrant group of volunteers, making a positive impact on
(1)

Rotary is a global network of community volunteers, united to provide humanitarian service and help build goodwill and peace. It is the oldest (founded 1905) and largest (1.2 million members) non-governmental, non-religion-affiliated service organization in the world. A primary force in the eradication of polio, Rotary is “this close” to achieving that goal. We are men and women eager to continue serving our local community, the greater community, and the world, while enjoying each other’s company and entertaining new and interesting ideas through our visiting speakers. Our first ‘exploratory’ meeting was February 26, 2014; we were officially Chartered as one of the more than 40,000 clubs of Rotary International on October 17, 2014. Our VISION for the Rotary Club of Longboat Key is to be a welcoming, vibrant group of volunteers, respected for their positive impact on the community and recognized for their contribution to the worldwide mission of Rotary International. Our MISSION is to be a portal to service, where members gather in fun and friendly collaboration to create and carry out programs and projects that benefit the community and the world. We expect the Rotary Club of Longboat Key to endure for decades because the community services it creates and inspires make it an important, even essential, factor in knitting residents and frequent visitors from all areas of the Island, of all ages and backgrounds, into a cohesive and neighborly whole. At the same time, the Rotary Club of Longboat Key reaches out to less fortunate families and individuals in neighboring communities with “roll up your sleeves and get to work” type programs aimed at long-term enhancement of lives we touch.

OK my Friends, October 24th was World Polio Day! What does that mean? Rotary International and every one of our clubs focuses on this week to eradicate Polio and other diseases in cooperation with the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation.

So to that point, we have an ask for blood donations through SunCoast Blood Centers compliments of Rotary Club of Sarasota.

Please donate or let your friends know there is a donation mobile center available.

Rotary District 6960 and Rotary International rocks with our individual efforts.

As usual, the All Faiths Food Bank project was a blast!

Attending were Rotary members and friends from 4 clubs for total of 23 persons attending. Thank you Sue A McConnell for the lead. Thank you Sarasota Southside Rotary Club, Rotary Club of Sarasota Sunrise, Rotary Club of Longboat Key, and Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch for the awesome participation! Other Clubs within Rotary District 6960 will love this event..

We learned how to take quick care of frozen perishables approximately 10 pallets stacked 5 feet high.

We created small family boxes 18x12x12-ish as 250 box units (5 pallets) plus one pallet of ice cream equalling 6 pallets. We created one more pallet of frozen large pizzas and turkeys that would not fit in the small boxes. We had 4 dumpsters worth of food that could not be used due to food safety or inability to accommodate storage (note that ice cream donations should be limited, and “clam-shell” and fish/shellfish frozen items are not accepted).

This was the most intellectually stimulating event I have ever attended. Also, the manual labor was more intense than previous events, but we found our own personal groove for what worked the best for each of us.
