Reminder - BSL Lakes Clean up Events II – June 10

This is a reminder that tomorrow, June 10, at 8 am, BSL Volunteers and Lake Committee members are doing our second of three Lakes clean-up events…this time tackling Heron and Egret Lakes. We’ll have the assistance of CERT team members John and Betty Ann Hanzl, who will be “manning” the CERT trailer for hydration and medical support. Rick M., Rick B, and Mona will be available with the tractor, trailer, and ATV to haul away the garbage bags filled with debris from the Lake and shoreline. The ATV will also act as a mobile hydration center, supply garbage bags, and be the sag wagon for those volunteers who may want to be transported to the CERT trailer for rest, cooling, or first aid or transported back to their car at the end of the event.

When: 8 am to 11 am, Saturday, June 10

Where: Meet at the corner of Acapulco Road and Alpenhorn Court

What to Bring: come equipped with waterproof or Heavy Duty work boots, hard tined rakes, gloves, and whatever we need to retrieve the debris from near shore. BSL will supply the trash bags and the ATV with the hitched cart to transport the debris to the BSL dumpster.

What: Clean up the shoreline of Heron Lake first with two work parties circling Heron clockwise and counterclockwise, with both teams meeting at the CERT trailer, stationed midway around Heron, on the South-West corner of Peppercorn Road and Carroway Lane, for rest and hydration, about 10 or so. We can then proceed to Egret Lake for a quick rounding of that small lake.

Make sure you sign in at the starting point and sign out at the CERT trailer after the clean-up so we can keep track of all our volunteers.

For those residents living on Heron and Egret Lakes, please respect volunteers walking along the shoreline in the back of your residence, cleaning up debris.

This will be the second in a series of 3 lake clean-up work parties until we are able to address all BSL lakes, so if you can’t make this event, keep tuned, and I’m hoping we can recruit you for our third “Clean up the BSL Lakes” event which will happen in July.

BSL Update-Hurricane Ian Cleanup

The BSL office remains closed due to Hurricane Ian and the loss of electricity throughout the area. Calls to the office are being forwarded to Dawn and she will try to answer any questions or pass on information. As of 8pm tonight (10/1/2022) there is water service in BSL, but no electricity. Streets and sidewalks are clear of major debris. Major work has been done today to clear the Community Park area. There does not seem to be any streets with standing water issues. There has been scattered damage to roofs, pool cages, enclosures, landscaping, etc. throughout BSL. A special thank you to all who have been out working and cleaning up our neighborhood today!

Subject: SIGNIFICANT ROAD CLOSURE ISSUES IN THE REGION (41 and 75)

Good Morning,

For those of you who are able to access your email, there are two significant road issues in our area:

The U.S. 41 bridges over the Peace River will be closed in both directions as of 3 p.m. All U.S. 41 lanes north- and southbound will be closed from Kings Highway to Marion Avenue until further notice.
The closure is a precautionary measure due to potentially dangerous conditions.
Southbound traffic will be rerouted to Kings Highway or Parmely Street. Northbound traffic will be rerouted to Marion Avenue or Olympia Avenue. Motorists should use Interstate 75 as an alternate route before reaching the closed intersections to relieve congestion.
Law enforcement will be on scene to direct traffic.

ALSO:

I-75 Closed Between Mile Marker 179 and 191

Please be advised that the Myakka River under Interstate 75 (I-75) has risen and impacted the interstate, no longer making it safely passable for motorists. Due to the rising water, I-75 in both directions is now closed from mile marker 179 (North Port / Toledo Blade Blvd) to mile marker 191 (Englewood / Jacaranda Blvd).

Here is the FDOT recommended “work around” as of this morning’s television report:

From I-75 North in Tampa area: exit at Brandon ( #257) on to SR 60 to US 98 to US 27 to SR 80 re-entering I-75 at #141 Palm Beach Blvd. If heading north from south: reverse this route. Make certain to have PLENTY of gas. Some stations that have it are not taking credit cards currently (cash is king and oil is liquid gold).

Stay safe and please treat intersections without signals as 4 way stops. Do not count on other drivers to do this. Driver defensively!

Wendy
