Distributed to entire communities during Mass Drug Administration campaigns, it prevents transmission before it can take hold. Simple, proven — and it only works if we reach every village, every year. 💊⁠

When political leaders, health authorities, teachers, and community members all show up for the same cause — that's real progress. 🤝

At Kimbanguist Primary School in Songololo, DRC, UFAR Executive Director Dr. Peter Mpoma Mikobi joins a teacher and student during the distribution of preventive treatment against schistosomiasis and intestinal worms. Teachers do more than teach — they help protect their students' health too. It takes a whole community to keep kids healthy AND learning. 📚⁠

As we say goodbye to the bugs of summer here in NJ, we're reflecting on a great weekend at the Sourland Mountain Festival — where we got to talk with folks about the blackfly, the tiny insect behind riverblindness. Unlike the mosquitoes buzzing around our own backyards, blackflies breed in fast-moving rivers, which is exactly why riverblindness hits hardest in the river communities UFAR serves across the DRC. While our NJ bug season winds down, the fight against riverblindness — and other neglected tropical diseases carried by mosquitoes — continues year-round in the DRC. So great to see friends like the Gupta family and Gambo Waziri (Princeton Seminary) stop by our table this year! And a special thanks to all our volunteers who made this weekend possible.
