On this day in 1968,Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his final speech at the Mason Temple in Memphis, Tennessee, in support of striking sanitation workers. In this speech, he famously stated, "I've been to the mountaintop... I've seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land!". He was assassinated the following day.
