Your community needs more than good intentions. It needs you in the room, at the table, with your name on a committee.
The Portsmouth Branch of the NAACP has open seats on every standing committee, and we're actively looking for a Branch Secretary. This is not a ceremonial role. It's the backbone of everything we do.
Join us.

Freedom Fighters,

We are not waiting - we are ready! Since our last voting rights briefing, state legislatures across the country have continued moving aggressively to redraw maps, weaken Black political representation, and take advantage of the Supreme Court’s devastating decision in Louisiana v. Callais.

This moment requires urgency, coordination, and action from every NAACP unit, state conference, and ally.

Join us for an All Units Call: Redistricting Next Steps this Thursday, May 14th at 7:30 PM ET. During this national call, we will provide critical updates on what is happening across priority states including Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and beyond and what our units must do next.

This briefing will cover:

New and emerging redistricting threats
The impact of the Callais decision on Black political power
State-level organizing and mobilization strategies
Community town halls and rapid response efforts
Voter education and election protection planning
Immediate actions units can take locally
The attacks we warned about are no longer theoretical. Legislatures are moving quickly to eliminate fair representation and weaken the political voice of Black communities across the country.

But we were built for this moment.

We must organize our communities, advocate in our legislatures, and mobilize at the ballot box. Every branch, youth council, college chapter, and state conference has a role to play in defending our democracy.

🌾 PROTECT OUR FARMERS. PROTECT OUR FUTURE.
The USDA has canceled $300 million in grants designed to help Black, Indigenous, and underserved farmers access land, capital, and markets. This is not just a policy decision — it’s a continuation of a long history of federal neglect and discrimination against Black agricultural communities.
Black farmers feed this country. It’s time this country showed up for them.
Here’s how YOU can take action right now:
🛒 Buy Direct — Find Black-owned farms and farmers markets near you
🤝 Support the NBFA — Donate to the National Black Farmers Association at nationalblackfarmers.org
📢 Advocate — Call your representatives and demand restored funding
🌱 Join a Co-op — Support food co-ops that source from minority farmers
🏦 Invest Locally — Support the Federation of Southern Cooperatives
📱 Amplify — Share this post and keep the conversation going
Land is legacy. And we will NOT be silent.

Your hard work, discipline, and talent continue to make us proud. This is what dedication looks like. This is what preparation meets opportunity looks like. And this is exactly why we invest in our young people.

The future is bright — and it’s standing right in front of us.

Let’s flood the comments with congratulations for these outstanding scholars!

Despite the efforts of men like Bull Connor, George Wallace, and others who opposed the Civil Rights Movement and the fight for equality and true freedom, history reminds us of this truth:
not even death can mute the voices of giants.

As some have closed their eyes, you can’t silence the echo of change that was born through their calloused, worn hands by which we experience the benefits of such change.

Tonight, another giant rests.
But his legacy will not.
May we continue to PUSH for change.
PUSH for equality.
PUSH for justice.

Oh that we would realize the need to "work while it is day, for when night comes no man can work.”

Rest well, Reverend Jesse Jackson.
