💍 Create your own handcrafted stack of sterling silver rings!

Perfect for beginners, this fast-paced workshop introduces the essential skills of jewelry fabrication while guiding you through the creation of a beautiful set of sterling silver stacking rings. Learn foundational techniques including forming, sizing, soldering, finishing, and setting simple cabochon stones.

Instructor London Battle will walk you through each step of the process, helping you build confidence at the bench while creating wearable pieces you’ll be proud to show off. By the end of class, you’ll leave with a finished set of custom rings and a solid introduction to metalsmithing and stone setting.

Whether you’re brand new to jewelry making or looking to expand your skills, this class offers a fun and rewarding way to spend a day in the studio.

✏️ Great jewelry begins long before the torch is lit. In this design-focused workshop, veteran designer and goldsmith Mary Wong shares the techniques she has used throughout her forty-plus years of creating custom jewelry and building a successful studio business.

Learn how to translate inspiration into workable jewelry designs by exploring the relationship between stones, settings, proportion, and overall composition.
Students will develop skills in sketching, visualizing designs on paper, and solving common design challenges before fabrication begins.

💎Join instructor Debra Carus for this fast-paced workshop focused on setting faceted round stones in silver tube bezels.

You’ll learn how to work with both commercial tube bezels and heavy-walled tubing while building the skills needed to create clean, professional-looking settings.

Through demonstrations and hands-on practice, you’ll gain confidence soldering tube bezels to sheet metal, selecting appropriate stones, measuring accurately, and using the right setting tools for consistent success. Students will create sample settings using cubic zirconia stones and metal provided in class.

Plus, you’ll take home a small kit of setting burs and practice stones so you can continue refining your skills at the bench.

This month we’re celebrating CMAG’s birthday with a special freestyle Show-and-Tell in our new meeting space, the gym!

Bring a metalwork creation and share the story behind it. Whether it’s a finished piece, a work in progress, a past commission, sketches, or process photos. Tell us what inspired the work, what challenges you encountered, what surprised you, and what you learned along the way.

No formal presentations, no pressure. Just good conversation, shared creativity, pizza, and birthday cake. After all, it’s hard to be too critical while enjoying a slice of cake! 🎂✨

Meet the Instructor: Debra Carus

After leaving the corporate world to pursue jewelry full-time, Debra Carus never looked back. Having studied art all her life, she focused on the ancient arts of filigree, granulation, and the intricate work of stone setting and enameling. Debra combines her formal academic training as a teacher with her passion for sharing skills and knowledge with others. She has sold her jewelry in art fairs and galleries across the country and has been a metalsmithing instructor at Multnomah Arts Center for 20 years, teaches at Nordic Northwest, the National Nordic Museum, Sitka, CMAG, and is the Education Chair for CMAG.

Join Debra for Stone Inlay Pendant and transform broken bits of stone, shell, and gemstones into a vibrant one-of-a-kind pendant. Learn how to create colorful mosaic and inlay effects using crushed stone, sterling silver, and professional finishing techniques.

In this hands-on workshop with instructor Mary Wong, you’ll learn the essential techniques behind successful prong settings. From cutting seats and creating secure bearings to avoiding stone damage and achieving a clean, professional finish.

Whether you’re looking to refine your setting skills or gain confidence working with gemstones, this class is packed with practical tips, troubleshooting techniques, and industry knowledge you can apply to future projects.

Please note: This is a gem-setting class only. Students will focus on setting techniques and will not be fabricating jewelry.

Use stone, shell, and gem fragments to create a vibrant and colorful inlay pendant! 🌈 No experience needed, all levels welcome in this one-day workshop.

Instructor Debra Carus, will show you how to crush your stone into various sized pieces to create a field of color or mosaic effects in your jewelry. Starting with a recessed metal design, similar to champleve enameling, students will fill their pieces with the gem fragments and once complete polish everything into a beautiful shiny finish.

Bring your own broken rocks, shells, or gem scraps, or use the colorful materials provided in class.
