Congratulations to Jennifer Dietz, principal of Holly Hill Elementary School, for being named the Volusia Association of Media Educators Administrator of the Year!

Under her leadership, the media center has truly become the heart of the school—a vibrant, welcoming space where curiosity grows and a love of reading is nurtured every day. Mrs. Dietz’s unwavering support of the media center program and its collection has created opportunities for students to explore, imagine, and learn beyond the classroom walls.

She understands the powerful role that a strong library media program plays in student success. By championing literacy and encouraging a schoolwide culture of reading and lifelong learning, she has helped shape an environment where every student feels inspired to pick up a book and discover something new.

Her vision, dedication, and belief in the value of media education are exactly what our schools need. This recognition is so well deserved, and the impact of her leadership will be felt for years to come.

Go visit the library and have breakfast or lunch! 💜

Children 18 and under can receive free breakfast and lunch at 12 Volusia County Public Library branches through Summer BreakSpot, a federally funded summer meals program running June 1 through Aug. 7. The program provides nutritious meals at no cost while school is out for the summer. Meals are available Monday through Friday unless otherwise noted. All sites will be closed July 3 in observance of Independence Day.

Congratulations to Martha Halcomb VAME media specialist of the year! Martha was nominated by several media specialists. Martha is a model media specialist in Volusia County. She has created a vibrant and active literacy community at Indian River Elementary.

Martha is a vital member of the Indian River community having served in many roles. Martha sponsors many clubs at her school including FFEA, Lego Robotics, News Crew, and book clubs for kids and adults. She leads family events including a 5K Run and fundraiser. She runs a library camp for kids over the summer.

Martha has served as the secretary for the Volusia Association for Media in Education for many years. She has presented at Volusia Learns. She has served as secretary for FAME and has presented at conferences. Martha is a a VUE steward and an invaluable member of the Volusia Media team. It is hard to imagine VAME without Martha. She is reliable, efficient, and a positive motivator. We love Martha!

What a beautiful night celebrating our library media centers across the district, installing officers, and especially celebrating one of our amazing retirees Marjorie Danese! We wish her the best in her retirement.

We can’t wait for next year lots more to come from VAME in 2026-2027. Stay tuned!!!
