The United Warriors Chess Foundation is proud to announce that the 2026 Texas Team Chess Championship will be hosted in Region VIII in Brownsville, Texas!

This exciting statewide event brings together players of all ages and skill levels in a unique four-player team format. Build your team, represent your city, club, school, workplace, family, or group of friends, and compete for a Texas State Championship in one of three divisions.

The Championship Section winner will earn the title of 2026 Texas Team Chess Champion, take home $800 in prize money, and receive a custom championship belt.

With a guaranteed $1,600 prize fund, incredible awards, and one of the most exciting formats in Texas chess, we are proud to bring this event to Brownsville. The continued hosting of Texas state championship events in Region VIII reflects the tremendous growth of chess in South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley.

We encourage teams to register early and secure their spot. We have also created a dedicated website to make tournament information easy to access and navigate.

As always, every dollar raised through this event goes directly back into our community through tournaments, chess programs, player development, and future opportunities for chess players across the Rio Grande Valley.

US Chess and Texas Chess Association memberships are required.

Prepare. Strategize. Conquer.

We look forward to seeing you in Brownsville on July 25–26! ♟️🏆🔥

Our 2026 UWCF Summer Showdown sent a message to the region: our students deserve quality tournaments that prepare them for the intensity, pressure, and competition found at state and national events.

This weekend, our players competed fearlessly and with purpose. We are proud to announce that the tournament produced a combined +385 rating points across all sections, with several players gaining 50+ rating points in a single event. That kind of improvement is proof that our students need more opportunities to play strong competition and continue developing their skills.

Most importantly, we want to recognize the parents. The countless hours spent traveling, supporting, encouraging, and investing in these students are what make their success possible. The parents are truly the driving force behind the growth of chess in our region.

There is no offseason in this incredible sport, and UWCF remains committed to providing high-quality events that help our students improve while continuing to grow the chess community throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

The tournament has officially been rated:

Hello everyone!

We wanted to share an amazing event that the United Warriors Chess Foundation will be a part of tonight from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Dean Porter Park in Brownsville.

The Cameron County Mental Health Task Force is hosting its Mindful May Community Resource Fair, a free event open to the public focused on mental wellness, community support, and connecting families with valuable local resources.

Chess offers numerous cognitive and social benefits, including improved concentration, problem-solving skills, confidence, stress management, and meaningful community engagement. We are honored to be part of an event that promotes mental wellness and brings our community together around such an important cause.

We will be there throughout the event playing chess, meeting community members, and sharing the many benefits that chess can provide for children and adults alike.

Stop by, say hello, play a game, and help support this important community initiative. We hope to see you there!

This is not the time to slow down! Chess is a year round sport! Football players workout nearly year round in search of glory and surpassing that 3rd-4th playoff round barrier that rarely any team in the valley has been able to overcome. Chess has that same issue!

🚨We officially have a New York emergency!🚨

We need to unite as a community and understand that the national trophies are not compensating our parents and students enough for their hard work and success!

So you know us, we don’t create problems, we only find solutions! Here is our first.

On Saturday June 6th, 2026 the United Warriors Chess Foundation will be hosting the 2026 UWCF Summer Chess Showdown!

There is a guaranteed $600 prize fund in the open and as always some amazing awards for the other sections! Space is limited this time, this is not the same Holiday Inn as the previous tournament. Please read all tournament details and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out.

See you there!

This year, we were blessed with the opportunity to attend the High School, Middle School, and Elementary National Championships. Throughout all three events, one thing became very clear, these kids care. A lot. They want to win. But for many players, that mindset begins in Round 1 and ends after Round 7. As a region, we need to do a better job preparing our students for events of this magnitude.

It should be RGV vs. NY, and we should all come together in pursuit of greatness. Congratulations to Region X on all of their incredible accomplishments this year!

Moving forward, we will continue striving to put your kids in the absolute best position to succeed, not only in chess, but in life. We are beyond proud of everything Region VIII has accomplished this year, and none of it would have been possible without the students, parents, coaches, and supporters who continue believing in this vision.

We hope to move forward with unity, determination, and a mindset that always puts the kids first.

We encourage all players, coaches, parents, and sponsors to showcase your students and teams in the comments of this post! Let everyone see the hard work, dedication, and success our region possesses.

And for now, time to get the summer rolling. We’ll be coming in guns blazing, you already know how we do things at United Warriors. 🤪🤓♟️

When we started this non-profit, the mission was simple: grow chess, give back to the kids, and build a winning region. Part of that mission will always be ensuring that every regional champion has the opportunity to represent our region on the national stage.

This year, the Harlingen Memorial Middle School Chess Team, back-to-back individual and team regional champions, got that opportunity, and they made the absolute most of it.

The United Warriors Chess Foundation was honored to help support our first official team competing at a National Championship event… and compete they did.

These 4 incredible players and their exceptionally supportive parents took the country by storm. Final standings in the K-8 U1700 division: NY, NY, NY, Harlingen Memorial, NY. Let that sink in.

We could not be more proud of these students and the hard work they put in every single day. More importantly, we thank the parents for trusting us and allowing us to be a small part of this journey. Moments like this prove what can happen when a community comes together with one goal: doing right by the kids and growing this beautiful game the right way.

Congratulations to Harlingen Memorial Middle School and these outstanding student competitors:
Joshua Berumen
Uther Rodriguez
Miranda Quezada
Ian Martinez

The future of Region VIII chess is bright… and this is only the beginning.

We first want to say thank you so much for all of your support at last Sunday’s Mother’s Day Breakfast! We had some incredible donations and amazing moms who helped support our event. We hope we made your day a little extra special!

With the money we raised, UWCF is very proud to announce our first National funding initiative! Our organization will be helping the 2026 TCA Region VIII Middle School Co-Champions attend this year’s Middle School Nationals in Round Rock, Texas. We are very excited to see this team compete and we are very happy we could support them.

Just like every nationals and tournaments you find us at, we will be analyzing for FREE! Whatever your kids need don’t hesitate to let us know. We look forward to hanging out and supporting our community at another National Event! Best of luck to all the competitors!! We’ll see you there 😉🔥♟️
