Thank you to everyone that followed the team’s adventures last week! It made a challenging week much more manageable. We shared all the responses, the likes, the shares, and the follows with the kids, and it really made the kids feel special.

So the kids made an interesting observation at World Championships. They thought that they were facing the top teams while being partnered with teams in the bottom 3rd of the division, a lot of teams think that though. Coaches helped the kids collect the data and it was analyzed as a team. Blue highlights matches that the kids won. Purple highlights teams that made it into the divisional elimination bracket. It turns out that the kids were right! They faced 12 teams that made eliminations (including the team that went completely undefeated and won World Championships!). And 9 of their match partners wound up in the bottom third of the division. This was even observed by parents from a different organization (who were EXTREMELY impressed that the kids had won 4 matches with their match schedule).
Here’s THE BEST PART! The kids aren’t complaining. They’re treating this information as what it is. Data about their performance. They know that a match schedule like this can happen again. Their goal is to make sure that they can win next season no matter the competition or their alliance partner. This is the best part of robotics. Teaching through failure and the kids are incredible for learning this lesson so quickly.

Watching Finals in “The Dome” is an event! Way to go Science Division for the win! Michael, the kids driver and builder, was happy to say that he went up against the World Champs and made them sweat on the long goals in qualifying rounds.
