Anger is almost never the first thing you feel. Often, fear, hurt, disappointment, or another emotion comes first, and anger follows.

Think of it like a rocket launch. A trigger sparks a primary emotion, and anger quickly ignites behind it. If we don’t notice the warning signs, anger can take over.

The good news? You can learn a different response. Start by noticing your body’s “check engine lights,” like a racing heart, tight chest, or clenched jaw, and pause before reacting.

Ask yourself: “What did I feel right before I got angry?”

Naming the emotion underneath can help you choose a response you won’t regret.

This is one of the tools we explore in Trauma REBOOT groups. Healing isn’t about never getting angry. It’s about understanding what’s underneath it.

Comment “ANGER” and we’ll send you some helpful tips for managing anger.

We talk about forgiveness a lot - but mostly about what it IS. We don't talk enough about what it is NOT. That's where a lot of people get stuck.

Forgiveness is NOT:
1. Letting them off the hook - the person still has to face what they did.
2. Forgetting - you don't forget. But the memory stops having power over you.
3. Making up - forgiving doesn't need the other person to say sorry.
4. Saying they were right - forgiving means YOU know the truth, not that you lost.
5. Pretending it's no big deal - it's the opposite. It means you're letting go of something big.
6. Setting them free - it doesn't free them. It frees YOU.
7. A feeling - you might not feel better right away. That's okay.
8. Fair - forgiveness isn't about what's fair. It's a gift you give, even when they don't deserve it.
Forgiveness isn't weak. And it isn't fake. It's how you stop carrying something that was never yours to carry.

One REBOOT participant shared: “It was truly a game changer for me. REBOOT gave me so much confidence. After sharing my story, hearing people speak into my life and tell me how they see me was incredibly powerful. Two years ago, I felt like I had already seen my best days. I don’t feel that way anymore. God has so much more in store for me.

And He has more in store for you, too.
