MBNRPC is proudly celebrating an achievement in becoming an officially recognized Military Spouse Owned Enterprise. The U.S. Military Spouse Chamber of Commerce created the first and only of its kind certification, in an unprecedented commitment to land military spouses a seat at the B2B table for the first time in history.
The United States has long been defended by members of the armed forces and in a silent role, military spouses support those service members. Cost of living in the U.S. often warrants dual household incomes to cope with high living expenses. Military families give up a lot in the name of freedom, from constant relocations, and time away from family, to the difficult reality that finding a career that fits this lifestyle continues to be a challenge. Secure employment for spouses continues to be an enduring sacrifice with military spouse unemployment being four times the national average, pre-pandemic.
Military spouse employment is a hot topic within the military space with hundreds of organizations working to provide solutions, improve policy, and increase opportunities for traditional employment. Traditional employment is only half of the picture. As the challenge to obtain traditional employment lingers more military spouse are turning to entrepreneurship with 48% of spouses having been self-employed or operating their own business.
As we continue building and providing resources for our communities around the world, we believe this recognition aligns with our goals of growing the birth professional community at duty stations globally.

📣🎙 New Episode Alert!
🙌

In today’s episode we’ll be hearing from Master Sergeant Steve Maxwell, whose wife, Zarema, shared her birth stories in episode 4 of Season One. Steve sat down with me to offer his perspective on being a birth partner, and provided some great insight into what he experienced during the births of their three children, which took place at a civilian hospital, a birth center, and then at home with concurrent care through the MTF.

Happy Holidays from all of us at the Military Birth Resource Network and Postpartum Coalition.

As we reflect on 2023, we have so much to be grateful for. We have grown our Coalition, added network members, recruited amazing ambassadors, and worked on a lot of policy. With these accomplishments came some disappointment as well. While we lost some major issues in the 2024 NDAA, we are proud of the way this group (you included!) came together and pushed for more support for growing families in the military. Legislators and other organizations have taken notice and with you alongside us, we know that this work will continue to grow and evolve. Thank you for your passion and commitment to our mission and we can’t wait for you to join us in or work for 2024.

Be on the lookout for some updates, events, and opportunities coming soon! Wishing you all an amazing holiday season and we’ll see you in 2024!

Military Birth Talk is LIVE! 🥳🙌💥
In our first episode, we hear from Gaby Cavins, Navy veteran, and Executive Director of the Military Birth Resource Network and Postpartum Coalition. Gaby shares her three birth stories, including a traumatic hospital birth (3:37), followed by a "freeing and healing" hospital birth (19:49), and concluding with a "silent, peaceful" homebirth (28:43). Over the course of her stories, Gaby shares about the way in which her varied births, and her processing of each of these transformative experiences during the postpartum period, led her to eventually become a birth worker herself. She also shares about the complexities of giving birth as an Active Duty service member (38:08). Gaby then discusses her work with MBRNPC, and shares some of the unique resources it provides to the military community (45:34).

📣ANNOUNCING the much anticipated MBRNPC Military Birth Talk Podcast launching in September 2023. 📣

Birth is a profound, unforgettable experience leaving a life long imprint on our hearts. For military families and service members giving birth and parenting in their community presents its own unique, challenging, and empowering realities. From giving birth alone or in a foreign country, miscarriage or infertility obstacles, being on Active Duty and desiring to have an out of hospital birth, provide a glimpse into the stories we have been told or supported someone through.

For years we’ve envisioned a way to shed some light on our personal journeys and help others connect and learn about our unique experiences. We are beyond excited to finally launch a podcast and introduce our host Anni Denzel in the upcoming week. Through these stories we hope to empower, educate and inspire you! We hope it opens the door for transparency and information to other military families, the birth community at large, and military leadership and policy makers to learn from our stories. Because it matters. Let’s let them be told.
