Gloucester County Hero Scholarship Fund, Inc. Non-profit organization serving emergency services personnel of Gloucester County, NJ Our strategy for charitable giving is three fold.

The Gloucester County Hero Scholarship Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping with the needs of the families of emergency services responders who have lost loved ones in the line of duty. First and foremost, we help the families of fallen public safety personnel by providing immediate living and medical expenses within the first 48 hours after a documented line of duty death. Second, it is our mission to assist individuals who suffer a catastrophic injury or illness in the line of duty and may have an extended recovery resulting in a prolonged absence from their occupation; or are unable to return to work due to the injury or illness. This aid helps to offset medical, rehabilitation, and living expenses that may not be covered by insurance. Third, we assist the children of public safety personnel to continue on to college, particularly in situations in which a parent has died in the line of duty. The genesis of the Fund was the tragic death of a volunteer firefighter in early 1995. It was discovered that no financial support structure was in place to assist the family of emergency personnel severely injured or killed in the line of duty in Gloucester County. Extensive medical bills and typical living expenses crippled the firefighter’s family. Aid was sought and provided by neighboring Camden County Hero Scholarship Fund. In response, the Gloucester County Hero Scholarship Fund was established in 1995 and is currently represented by a twenty-one member volunteer executive Board of Trustees. The panel is made up of both emergency and non-emergency personnel, including five from fire service, five from EMS, five law enforcement personnel, and six civilians. The Gloucester County Hero Scholarship Fund is represented by legal counsel, who is active in the day-to-day operations of the Fund and sits on the Board of Trustees

Today, we honor and remember Joseph Sutter of the Pitman Ambulance Corps.

On this day in 1976, Mr. Sutter tragically lost his life after suffering a cardiac-related event while driving an ambulance with a patient on board en route to Underwood-Memorial Hospital in Woodbury.

His passing marked the second line-of-duty death for the small community of Pitman in as many days.

“A great man is never as tall as when he stoops to talk to a child or bends a knee to help a hurting friend….A great man is never so strong as when he shoulders the burden of a downtrodden stranger….Some measure greatness by applause and accolades, but a man who seeks opportunity to serve in the quiet places of the world, his is the higher reward.
A great man expects the best from others and gives the best of himself”

🚨🏍️ IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT – RIDE TO REMEMBER POSTPONED 🏍️🚨
🌧️

NEW DATE: SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2026

Due to the impending forecast of heavy rain and strong winds associated with the approaching storm system, we have made the difficult decision to POSTPONE our 25th Annual Ride to Remember from Sunday, October 11th, to our scheduled rain date of Sunday, October 18th.

The safety of our riders, passengers, law enforcement escorts, volunteers, and supporters will always be our top priority.

This was not an easy decision. Countless hours of planning and preparation have gone into making this milestone 25th anniversary a memorable event. We understand that many of you have made arrangements to attend, including those traveling from out of state, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

✅ All registrations will automatically transfer to October 18th. No action is necessary!

While Mother Nature may have changed our plans, she certainly hasn't changed our mission! ❤️

We look forward to gathering on October 18th to honor Corporal Steve Levy, Firefighter Robert "Bobby" Reider III, and all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our communities.

THANK YOU for your patience, understanding, and continued support of the Gloucester County Hero Scholarship Fund.

🇺🇸 Happy Flag Day! 🇺🇸

Today, we proudly celebrate the Stars and Stripes — a symbol of the freedom, courage, and sacrifice that define our nation.

As we honor our flag, we remember the brave men and women of our military who have served and sacrificed to defend the freedoms it represents.

At the Gloucester County Hero Scholarship Fund, we are grateful for all who have answered the call to serve our country and protect the ideals that unite us as Americans.

May we all take a moment today to reflect on the meaning of our flag, the history it represents, and the sacrifices made to keep it flying proudly.

God Bless America. 🇺🇸
