Session 3 is officially underway, and we couldn’t be more excited! 🎉

It’s safe to say our staff and volunteers missed our riders just as much as our riders missed being at the barn. Seeing all the smiles, hearing the laughter, and watching progress already being made this week reminds us why we do what we do. ❤️🐴

Each week, nearly 50 riders come through our doors, and we feel incredibly blessed by the trust and support of our community. Thank you for making Dream Riders of Kentucky a place where lives are changed every day.

We’re also overwhelmed by the amazing response we’ve received from individuals interested in volunteering! We are excited to welcome new faces to our team and will be scheduling a volunteer orientation and training soon.

In the meantime, if you’d like to help, come when you can, we’ll teach you right on the spot! No experience necessary, just a willingness to make a difference.

Here’s to another amazing session at the barn! 💙

📣 Calling All Experienced Horse People! 🐴

As Dream Riders of Kentucky continues to grow, we’re exploring the possibility of adding additional volunteer riding instructors to our team.

Do you have experience teaching horseback riding lessons? Are you passionate about sharing your knowledge and helping riders build confidence and skills in the saddle? If so, we’d love to connect with you!

This is not a formal position opening at this time, we’re simply gauging interest from individuals who may be interested in volunteering their time and talents as we continue to expand our programs.

If this sounds like something you’d like to learn more about, send us a message. Together, we can help more riders experience the life-changing benefits of horses. ❤️

What a great read that our Program Manager and Instructor shared earlier today. ❤️🐴

What a great read that our Program Manager and Instructor shared earlier today. ❤️🐴

Things your riding instructor wants you to know:
1. This sport is hard. You don't get to bypass the hard…..every good rider has gone through it. You make progress, then you don't, and then you make progress again. Your riding instructor can coach you through it, but they cannot make it easy.

2. You're going to ride horses you don't want to ride. If you're teachable, you will learn from every horse you ride. Each horse in the barn can teach you if you let them. IF YOU LET THEM. Which leads me to…

3. You MUST be teachable to succeed in this sport. You must be teachable to succeed at anything, but that is another conversation. Being teachable often means going back to basics time and time and time again. If you find basics boring, then your not looking at them as an opportunity to learn. Which brings me to…..

4. This sport is a COMMITMENT. Read that, then read it again. Every sport is a commitment, but in this sport your teammate weighs 1200 lbs and speaks a different language. Good riders don't get good by riding every once in awhile….they improve because they make riding a priority and give themsevles opportunity to practice.

5. EVERY RIDE IS AN OPPORTUNITY. Even the walk ones. Even the hard ones. Every. Single. Ride. Remember when you just wished someone would lead you around on a horse? Find the happiness in just being able to RIDE. If you make every ride about what your AREN'T doing, you take the fun out of the experience for yourself, your horse, and your instructor. Just enjoy the process. Which brings me to...

6. Riding should be fun. It is work. and work isn't always fun.....but if you (or your rider) are consistently choosing other activities or find yourself not looking forward to lessons, it's time to take a break. The horses already know you don't want to be here, and you set yourself up for failure if you are already dreading the lesson before you get here.

7. You'll learn more about horses from the ground than you ever will while riding. That's why ground lessons are important, too. If you're skipping ground lessons (or the part of your lesson that takes place on the ground), you're missing out on the most important parts of the lesson. You spend far more time on the ground with horses than you do in the saddle.

8. Ask questions and communicate. If you're wondering why your coach is having you ride a particular horse or do an exercise, ask them. Then listen to their answer and refer to #3 above.

9. We are human beings. We make decisions (some of them life and death ones) every day. We balance learning for students with workloads for horses and carry the bulk of this business on our shoulders. A little courtesy goes a long way.

Of all the sports your child will try through their school years, riding is one of 3 that they may continue regularly as adults (golf and skiing are the others). People who coach riding spend the better part of their free time and much of their disposable income trying to improve their own riding and caring for the horses who help teach your child. They love this sport and teaching others…..but they all have their limits. Not all good riders are good coaches, but all good coaches will tell you that the process to get good is not an easy one.

🎶✨ Exciting things are on the horizon at Dream Riders of Kentucky! ✨🎶

We are thrilled to share that our board member, Daniel Rigling, has partnered with Matt Gray and Gray Sky Music on a very special project that will benefit Dream Riders of Kentucky and help share our mission with the community.

While we can’t reveal all the details just yet, we can promise it’s something we’re incredibly excited about! Stay tuned over the next few months as we get closer to unveiling this unique collaboration.

We can’t wait to share more with all of you! 💙🐴

🎙️ We recently welcomed Dan Rigling into the studio at Gray Sky Music to record for the incredible nonprofit Dream Riders.

Dan brought plenty of talent and heart to the session, and it was a pleasure working with him again this time on a project that supports such a meaningful mission. We love being able to use music to help tell stories, inspire others, and support organizations that make a difference in our communities.

A big thank you to Dan and everyone involved with Dream Riders. We’re honored to be a small part of this special project and look forward to sharing more soon!

There is something truly special about being part of Dream Riders of Kentucky.

The connection between our riders and horses is powerful, and our volunteers help make that magic possible.

We are currently seeking volunteers for our classes on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings, and Saturday mornings. Volunteers help groom and tack our horses, and walk alongside our riders to support them throughout their lessons.

To our current volunteers:
If each of you invited just one friend or family member who shares your heart for serving others, we could double our volunteer team and open the barn doors to even more members of our community.

If you’d like to join us, please send us a private message with your email address, and we’ll send over the volunteer application. We would be honored to welcome you into the Dream Riders family.

💙 Meet a few of the incredible faces behind the Dream Riders of Kentucky Outreach Team!

This special group of staff and volunteers helps carry our mission beyond the barn and into the heart of our community. Whether they’re visiting nursing homes, assisted living facilities, memory care communities, or community events, they share smiles, compassion, and meaningful connections everywhere they go.

The joy our miniature ponies bring to residents is truly remarkable. Seeing faces light up, hearing stories shared, and watching memories come alive during each visit reminds us why this work is so important. But the experience is just as rewarding for our staff and volunteers, who leave each visit with full hearts and a renewed sense of purpose.

Our outreach team plays a vital role in spreading the Dream Riders mission throughout Owensboro and the surrounding area. Their dedication, kindness, and willingness to serve make a lasting impact on everyone they meet.

Thank you to this amazing team for being such wonderful ambassadors for Dream Riders of Kentucky and for sharing the healing power of horses with our community. 💙🐴
