We are deeply saddened by the passing of 1989 Eisenhower Fellow Tom Frawley.

Tom embodied the qualities and values that define both Eisenhower Fellowships and our namesake: integrity, public service, leadership, humility, humor and a deep commitment to improving the lives of others. A servant leader in the truest sense, Tom devoted his life to strengthening healthcare, public accountability and civic life in Northern Ireland.

Within the Eisenhower Fellowships network, Tom was a leader among leaders. For decades, he generously shared his wisdom, guidance and friendship, serving on the Global Network Council and helping to strengthen our global community. Simply put, every Eisenhower Fellow who knew Tom adored him.

Tom's warmth, generosity and commitment to others enriched our organization and the lives of countless Fellows around the world. We were fortunate to have him in the EF family, and his example will continue to inspire us for years to come.

Our thoughts are with his wife, Marie, their children, his fellow Irish Fellows and all who knew and loved him.

Eisenhower Fellowships is saddened to report that our 2015 USA Fellow Joshua Baer, founder and chief executive officer of the startup incubator Capital Factory in Austin, Texas, was killed Tuesday night when the small business jet in which he was traveling crashed onto a highway near Laredo, Texas.

According to news reports, the crash happened shortly before 10 p.m. The aircraft, a Cessna Citation Latitude, reported mechanical problems while attempting to reach Laredo International Airport on its way back to Austin from San José del Cabo, Mexico.

Five other people aboard the plane survived and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Josh had been working closely with EF for weeks to organize this fall’s program and to explore ways to secure funding in Austin’s burgeoning startup community to support future entrepreneurial Fellows.

In a statement Wednesday, Capital Factory confirmed his death and described him as a driving force behind Texas' technology and startup ecosystem.

We extend our profound condolences to Josh’s family and community.
