A sweet memory back to 1999 when Suryani S.F. Motik ( ) was in Philladephia joining with colleagues from various countries on Eisenhower Global Fellowship program.⁣⁣

On the picture, Yani was standing on the third from left side. She is currently vice chairman of Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (KADIN - Kamar Dagang dan Industri Indonesia) and commissioner of Tokio Marine Life. She is also the owner of IndoPrima and a lecturer at SBM ITB. ⁣⁣

The journey did not only give her an insight on policy towards the SMEs, but also gave her a great network of people.⁣

With great sadness, we, the Indonesian Eisenhower Fellows announce the demise of Nabiel Makarim, EF Single Nation Program 1990. He passed away peacefully on Friday, 22 October 2021.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Nabiel was the Minister of Environment from 2001-2004. His track record in the environmental movement began as an environmental engineer in North Jakarta. He subsequently joined the Ministry of Environment in the late 1980s. After completing the Eisenhower Fellowship, he led the creation of BAPEDAL (Badan Pengendalian Dampak Lingkungan/ Environmental Management Agency), served as the Deputy Chairman. After a successful tenure with BAPEDAL, Nabiel was appointed Minister of Environment in the President Megawati's cabinet. After retirement, he continued to be active serving as advisor to several environmental NGOs and civil society organization. He is remembered as the initiator of PROPER (Program Peringkat), an industrial rating program which rates industries according to their pollution mitigation and environmental management. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
PROPER marked a breakthrough in the Indonesian environmental policy arena emulated by other countries, including China and Costa Rica.*⁣⁣
⁣⁣
On the pictures slide 2 and 3 were Pak Makarim and Rusdian Lubis who have spent part of his 1990 EF fellowship in the US to study the US-EPA as one of Indonesia’s models for the establishment of BAPEDAL. ⁣⁣

Our deepest condolences on the passing of General Colin Powell, former EF's Chairman of the Board. He was the first African-American Secretary of State who served as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the 65th United States Secretary of State from 2001 to 2005.⁣

Celebrating Eisenhower Fellowships Day 2021 which falls on 14 October, we partnered with an online media IDN Times to discuss about the current issue on carbon tax. ⁣

Moderated by Uni Lubis (EF 2011), both speakers Fabby Tumiwa (EF 2009) and Megain Widjaja (EF 2013) shared their thoughts and explained the issue in a comprehensive way so that viewers can refer to this dialogue when they want to understand about the topic. ⁣

We're proud of the new film by our Eisenhower Fellow Nia Dinata (Nia Dinata), titled "A World Without," premiering today on Netflix. Fellows around the world can enjoy the movie as it is aired in 190 countries!

Netflix Teams Up with Nia Dinata to Launch A World Without. Directed by Nia who co-wrote with Lucky Kuswandi, A World Without is packed with mystery and suspense as we follow three teenage girls who explore an alternative life as part of The Light. This organization promises people the lives they have always desired. Great performances from Indonesian actors' compliment the eclectic mix of the cast.

According to Nia, "Beneath the mystery and suspense, A World Without is a journey of young women finding their own power within. We are voicing the authenticity of women's perspective by having major involvement of female crew, from cinematographer, producer, editor, assistant director, to costume and art. So the powerful female empowerment message doesn't stop in front of the camera but goes on behind it as well. By teaming up with Netflix, we hope the universal message of A World Without can also reach out and relate to people across 190 countries."

Nia joined in 2008. She is well-known for her authentic and eye-opening movies such as Arisan, Love for Share, and Ini Kisah Tiga Dara.

Congratulations to Ligwina Hananto (), Dini Indra (.indrawati.s), and Shinto Nugroho (.nugroho) for being awarded as Eisenhower Fellow.

The awarding ceremony was recently held in Philadelphia, PA, US, after the fellows took their individual journey in the tough times of pandemic Covid19. It's great to see the three ladies met George de Lama, President of Eisenhower Fellowships, in the very home of EF in Philly.

Eisenhower Fellowships has a mission to identify, empower, and connect innovative leaders through a transformative fellowship experience and lifelong engagement in a global network of dynamic change agents committed to creating a more peaceful, prosperous, and just world.

We are proud that every year from 1957 until this year, we have had Indonesia leader representatives carefully chosen to take the journey in Eisenhower Fellowship programs.
