There’s been a LOT happening at Fleisher as we prepare for fall, and we’re excited to start sharing some of the updates taking shape across our studios!

One of the most exciting projects is happening in our Ceramics Studio, led by our beloved Senior Studio Technician and Teaching Artist, Scott Cooper. Over the next few weeks, small pints of paint-on glazes will be replaced with industry-standard dip glazes, giving our students 81 total color options from just 9 glaze buckets. Even better? All 81 colors will be mapped on an easy-to-follow visual grid, making it easier than ever to explore, experiment, and find your perfect glaze.

It’s an exciting update to our ceramics studio, and we can’t wait to share the finished system with our community this fall!

In Celebration of Thora Jacobson (1949-2026)

To the Fleisher community, Thora Jacobson did not just lead Fleisher Art Memorial, she was Fleisher. She joined our staff in 1972, and in 1983, the same year that Fleisher became an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, she stepped into the role of Executive Director, a position she held until 2006. Thora’s contributions and vision transformed Samuel Fleisher‘s original sanctuary and graphic sketch club for immigrant boys into the dynamic, modern epicenter of community art that it is today.

Thank you, Thora. Your light remains in our galleries, our studios, and our hearts.

Say hello to our newest team member, Jumaani Haskins!

Jumaani brings nearly eight years of experience in facilities, operations, tech education, and esports. His career has included supporting everything from local community events to some of the largest gaming competitions in North America, with previous roles at Arcadia University (his alma mater), Nerd Street, and the Police Athletic League of Philadelphia.

Beyond operations, Jumaani is passionate about using gaming as a pathway to technology education and community engagement for young people.

Joining Fleisher marks a full-circle moment. As a teenager, he participated in the Mural Arts Program, where he first experienced the power of art to build community. Now, he’s excited to support Fleisher’s classes, programs, and creative spaces from behind the scenes, and to help make art accessible for everyone!

This August, we’re engaging in a variety of building improvement projects to get our campus ready for Fall Term, and Jumaani is part of the team helping make it all happen.

We're Hiring!

Join the Fleisher team! We're looking for a Mandarin-speaking Children & Youth Teaching Artist to lead two Drawing Fundamentals classes for students in grades 6-8 and 9-12 as part of our Young Artists Program.

This is a wonderful opportunity to inspire young artists, share your passion for drawing, and help build a creative, welcoming classroom. Additional Saturday and future teaching opportunities may also be available.
