Pete Smith for Northeast Philly.

Pete Smith was born and raised in Philadelphia and has lived in the Northeast since he was five years old. Pete, 52, and his wife MaryBeth currently reside in the Tacony neighborhood of Philadelphia and are the proud parents of three children and three grandchildren.

Despite being both from the same neighborhood, Pete and MaryBeth did not meet until after high-school. They met while working together shortly after graduating from Father Judge High School and have been happily married ever since. Pete and his wife were raised by proud natives of the Tacony Community. Pete is the product of two parents that served the Philadelphia community their entire lives. His father was Firefighter for the City of Philadelphia his entire career. After retiring from the force, he founded Tacony Tax and Real Estate. Pete’s mother was the Branch Manager at Fidelity Federal for many years.

Pete’s father-in-law was a local coach and his mother-in-law, Betty, was the crossing guard at Our Lady of Consolation for over 27 years.

Pete attended Tacony’s St. Leo’s and graduated from Father Judge High School. He was a standout swimmer and played football on the 1984 Championship Team. After starting a family, Pete went back to school, obtaining his Bachelors Degree in Business Management from the prestigious Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania.

Pete has always been very active in his community. He has been a Little League coach, volunteer for school activities, and taken part in countless community cleanups. Pete founded The Northeast Philly Block Captain Coalition and is currently the Co-Block Captain for his street. Pete believes that a thriving community begins at the street level. His motto is simple: “The more organized blocks lead to more organized neighborhoods.” Pete does not wave at his neighbors; he embraces and engages them in conversation.

As Tacony Civic Association President, Pete and his Board worked closely with the community to increase the presence of law enforcement. These initiatives have led to an increase in PPD vehicle, foot, and bike patrols. As a result of these efforts, drug dealers and s*x workers off of the Avenue, opening the corridor back up for local shopping. Pete has led fundraising efforts for the Association which has provided funds for summer festivals, concerts and other free events for the community. His partnership with Dietz and Watson has benefitted the Association as well as the Free Library of Tacony’s Winterfest.

In addition to all the volunteer efforts that Pete does for the community, he is also a very successful manager of a Fleet Management Sales and Service company. Throughout his career, Pete Smith has been recognized as a team-builder and expert in customer service.

Pete continues to build relationships with business and community leaders as well as all Philadelphians. He is committed to bringing change to City Hall that will benefit Philadelphia's neighborhoods.
