What started as a vision to give more cats a safe, comfortable place to stay while awaiting their forever homes is quickly becoming a reality!

We are especially humbled by the support we've received from animal lovers ALL ACROSS THE UNITED STATES! 🇺🇸

🐾 HELP US MAKE ROOM FOR 500–600 MORE CATS EACH YEAR. 🐾

Right now, one of the hardest things we have to do is say “we’re full.”

Our new Catio Project can help change that.

By creating approximately 20 additional spaces for cats, the catio will give Emerald Shores Humane Society more room to safely separate new arrivals from cats who are ready for adoption. And because our cats typically stay with us only 10–14 days before finding homes, those spaces can be used again and again throughout the year.

That means this project isn't just about building a catio.

❤️ It’s about helping an estimated 500–600 additional cats every year.
🐱 It’s about having room when another cat needs us.
🏠 It’s about helping more local families who can no longer care for their pets.
🌊 And it’s about continuing to build the kind of humane society Northwest Florida deserves.

Our goal is $5,000, and every gift moves us closer.

Whether you give $10, $25, $50, $100 or more, you're helping create something that will serve animals and families in our community for years to come.

Help us build the space so we can say “YES” to more cats who need us.

👉 Donate to the Emerald Shores Humane Society Catio Project today.

And if you can't donate, please SHARE this post. One share may put this project in front of the person who can help us make it happen.

🐾 More space. More adoptions. More lives helped.

HURRICANE ISAIAS UPDATE

Apparently, the dogs, cats, and birds at Emerald Shores Humane Society heard there was a hurricane coming and interpreted that as “throw a party.” 😂

While they handle the entertainment, the humans will be handling the important stuff.

Emerald Shores Humane Society will be CLOSED Friday as we prepare the facility and make sure every animal in our care is safe, secure, and comfortable ahead of Hurricane Isaias.

Closed: Friday
Planned reopening: Monday

We’ll continue caring for our animals throughout the storm—we just won’t be open to the public.

Please take the time to prepare your family and your pets. Bring animals inside, secure gates and fencing, make sure collars and ID tags are on, and keep medications, food, carriers, and other necessities handy.

From all of us at Emerald Shores Humane Society—stay safe, Northwest Florida!

And if anyone asks…the animals are absolutely not having a hurricane party while we’re closed.

🐾 October is Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month! 🐾

Somewhere tonight, a shelter dog will fall asleep without knowing that tomorrow could be the day everything changes.

They don't need a perfect home. They need a safe home, a patient family, and someone willing to give them a chance.

Shelter dogs come in every size, age, breed, and personality. Some arrive with stories we know. Others arrive with stories we'll never fully understand. But their past does not have to determine their future.

This October, consider opening your home to a dog who is waiting for a new beginning.

You may think you're changing the life of a shelter dog.

Don't be surprised when you discover they changed yours, too. ❤️🐾

🖤🐾 National Black Dog Day

Today we celebrate the beautiful black dogs who sometimes seem to disappear into the background when families are searching for their next companion.

But spend a little time with them and you'll quickly discover something important:

Love doesn't come in a color.

Behind that dark coat may be the goofy best friend who makes you laugh every morning, the adventure buddy who never wants to leave your side, or the loyal companion who has been waiting for someone to finally notice them.

When choosing your next family member, don't judge them by how well they photograph or the color of their coat.

Look into their eyes. Meet their personality. Give them a chance.
Your new best friend might just be the one in black. 🖤🐾

🐾 HELP US BUILD A HAVEN OF HOPE FOR OUR CATS! 🐾

We’re running out of room—and the cats needing our help aren’t slowing down.

Emerald Shores Humane Society is raising funds to build a professional catio that will allow us to safely increase our capacity and give the cats in our care something they desperately need: more space, fresh air, enrichment, and room to simply be cats.

But this project is about more than building a catio.

It will allow us to better separate new arrivals from cats who are healthy, comfortable, and ready for adoption**—helping us manage our growing cat population while providing a better environment for every cat that comes through our doors.

Every dollar donated to this fundraiser will be restricted specifically to the Catio Project.

Whether you give $10, $25, $50, $100 or more, you're helping us build something that will serve cats in our community for years to come.

When you donate, you're not just helping us build a catio.

❤️ You're helping us make room for the next cat that needs us.

Please donate if you can—and if you can't, share this post. Every donation and every share moves us one step closer.

🌎🐾 World Rabies Day

Rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear—but it is also preventable.

Vaccinating our pets doesn't just protect them. It helps protect our families, our neighbors, other animals, and our entire community.

Responsible pet ownership means keeping rabies vaccinations current and teaching children never to approach or handle unfamiliar or wild animals. If you or your pet has contact with a potentially rabid animal, take it seriously and seek professional guidance immediately.

Prevention is simple. The consequences of rabies are not.
Protect your pets. Protect your family. Protect your community. ❤️🐾

💙 **This Is What Your Support Looks like.**

A few days ago, we thanked our community for everything you've done for Emerald Shores Humane Society.

Today, we want to show you **why it matters.**

When you donate a bag of food, it doesn't stay on our porch very long. It fills bowls.

When you donate blankets, cleaning supplies, toys, or other necessities, they become part of the everyday care of animals who depend on us.

When you volunteer your time, an animal gets another walk, another clean space, another person showing them kindness.

And when you support Emerald Shores Humane Society financially, you help us provide the food, veterinary care, medications, supplies, shelter, and resources necessary to keep doing this work.

But the real result isn't a bag of food or a veterinary bill.

**It's an animal getting another chance.**

It's a frightened dog beginning to trust again.

It's a hungry animal sleeping with a full stomach.

It's a family getting a little help so they can keep the pet they love.

It's an animal who arrived without a home eventually walking out our doors with one.

Those are the things your support makes possible.

And every time we see one of those moments, we're reminded that Emerald Shores Humane Society isn't doing this alone.

**You're doing it with us.**

🐾 **This is your humane society.
These are our community's animals.
And together, we're making a difference.**

🕯️ Remember Me Thursday 🐾
Today, we pause to remember the shelter animals who never got the chance to go home.

The ones who waited.
The ones who were overlooked.
The ones whose stories ended before someone came through the door and said, “That’s the one.”

But today is also about hope.

Right now, in shelters and humane societies everywhere, animals are still waiting for their person. They don't know how many times someone has walked past their kennel. They only know that each new face might finally be their family.

So today, we remember those we couldn't save by fighting a little harder for those we still can.

Remember them. Honor them. Adopt for them. ❤️

🐾 16 animals. One important trip. A healthier community.

Today, Emerald Shores Humane Society transported 16 animals to the Mississippi SNIP Clinic for spay/neuter! We even got a few pics of the animals during the day. 🤣

Spaying and neutering is an important part of responsible pet ownership. It helps prevent unwanted litters, reduces the number of animals entering shelters, and improves the health of our community’s pets.

A huge THANK YOU to the citizens who are working hard to improve conditions for animals throughout our county. Every responsible decision makes a difference. ❤️🐾

Together, we’re making progress—one animal at a time.
