Thank you to the Rotary Club of St. Augustine Sunrise for your support!

A Saturday morning well spent—and the impact will last for years.

Recently, the St Augustine Sunrise Rotary, part of Rotary District 6970, volunteered at PET Florida, Personal Energy Transportation with The Gift of Mobility. They helped build three-wheeled, hand-powered wheelchairs for those in need around the world.

This volunteer-run program constructs and distributes three-wheeled, hand-powered wheelchairs that can last upwards of twenty years. This durability is thanks to a powder coating system funded by a district grant, along with contributions from the Rotary Club of Fleming Island, Inc., The Rotary Club of Green Cove Springs, the Interact Club of Green Cove Springs Junior High School, Orange Park Rotary, Rotary Club of Orange Park Sunrise, Rotary Club of Orange Park Sunset, and Rotary Club of St. Augustine, Sunset, as well as generous supporters from Mobility Worldwide/PET Florida in Penney Farms.

These hand-operated Personal Energy Transportation vehicles are provided to men, women, and children worldwide who are unable to walk due to limb loss from illness, birth defects, land mines, or war.

We are happy to be apart of such a wonderful organization!

She said her cart made her a businesswoman.

Meet Elizabeth. She’s 25, lives in Nairobi, Kenya, and she’s an entrepreneur.

She sells clothing she makes herself. She sells popsicles. All from the back of her Mobility Cart.

When I met her, her mother and a friend helped her get to her cart. But once she settled in, everything shifted. She was on her own. Independent. Confident. In her element.

Before her cart, her world was the four walls of home.

Now she helps support her mother. She goes to church. She has friends. She has a life.

That’s not small. That’s everything.

This is why Mobility Worldwide exists. Not just to provide mobility, but to unlock dignity, purpose, and community. The chance for someone to contribute, connect, and belong.

Elizabeth isn’t a recipient of charity. She’s a businesswoman who needed the right tool to become one.

Volunteers build these carts by hand, often never knowing who will receive them.

Some people start their days with a cup of coffee and a morning jog. Our volunteers start theirs with a cup of coffee and the energy to work on our PET carts! It’s amazing how the creation of something as seemingly simple as a “cart” can bring so much joy when you know the life-changing impact it will have. Thank you to our volunteers! ❤️
