Making Strides Youth Ranch, Inc.

Making Strides Youth Ranch, Inc. MSYR is a nonprofit for mentoring At-Risk and other youth. Sessions partner a leader, horse, and rancher for 90 min each week.

Sessions include chores, horses, and activities and focus on self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and more. Making Strides Youth Ranch, Inc is an equine based program that seeks to assist youth by pairing them with an adult mentor and horse in sessions that span a 12 week period. Weekly sessions are ninety minutes and are tailored to meet the needs of the individual. The purpose

of the program is to utilize the horse and mentor relationship to assist the youth in decision making and social emotional well-being, as well as to address needs exposed throughout sessions. Faith-based sessions are an option and point our ranchers to Jesus through scripture, conversation, and prayer. Making Strides seeks to include the family unit as permitted to address overall family needs that may be contributing to the undesirable or delinquent behavior. It is our desire to present a program that will help each youth make improved life choices!

✝️FAITH FOCUS
FREEDOM!
St. John 8:36
“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”

During devotion time, we discussed the fact that when Christ sets someone free from any sin, they are free and don't have to question that freedom or the work He has done.

👨‍🌾 CHORES
NEW HOME!
Ranchers helped prepare food and then feed and water the ducks, chickens, and horses. Our new chicks, and recently donated bantams, were moved to a larger coop, so they’re settling in their new home!

🐴🤠HORSES
MOVING ON!
We continued practicing controlled riding (maneuvering over poles, and through/around cone obstacles to work on listening, obedience, and focus for horses and Rancher) and moved on to trotting. Mounting backwards can ignite a little nervous energy, but the thrill of riding while facing the horse’s rear rather than head, is definitely worth feeling nervous. Each Rancher moves at his/her own pace in learning to groom, lead, and ride.

🧶ACTIVITIES
CHOICES!
This week’s sessions included several Ranchers choosing to work on crafts. Painting was the popular choice! Still others chose to play mounted games, such as around the world and ring toss.
Mentoring sessions end with putting supplies away and enjoying a snack.
