This week, we’re proud to celebrate National Careers in Trades Week (April 6–10, 2026) and highlight the skilled careers in the sheet metal and HVAC industry.

Members of SMART Local 55 build, fabricate, install, and maintain a wide range of systems that keep our communities running, from HVAC and ventilation systems to architectural sheet metal and custom metal fabrication. SMART Local 55 Boise is proud to recognize the first apprentices receiving a new childcare stipend as part of a three-year pilot program designed to support working families in the trades.

Eligible first-year apprentices with children age 12 and under can receive a $400 monthly childcare stipend, administered through TOOTRiS. The goal of the program is to help apprentices successfully complete their first year while also creating new opportunities for parents who may have previously faced barriers to entering the trade due to childcare costs.

Supporting apprentices means supporting families and strengthening the future of our workforce.

The Annual High Roller Bowling Tournament gives SMART Local 55 Boise members a chance to connect outside the jobsite. It is a laid-back setting where everyone can interact on the same level, build relationships, and get to know each other better. That trust and familiarity naturally carry back into the field.

When members spend time together like this, communication improves, and people are more engaged in building their union.

At the end of the day, the High Roller brings members closer, strengthens solidarity, and helps keep Local 55 members strong for the long run.

It's Women in Construction Week, and we're celebrating the incredible creativity of our TWBBN Artwork Contest submissions!

Help us shine a spotlight on the talent by voting in the People's Choice round. You can select up to 10 designs, as the top-voted ones will move forward for review by the TWBBN subcommittee, who will decide on final uses like shirts, sweatshirts, stickers, and more!
