We are a non-profit organization (501-C3) dedicated to the rescue, care, and rehabilitation of abandoned, neglected, abused, mistreated, nervous, and misunderstood dogs. We are a dog rescue that was inspired by a Rhodesian Ridgeback but we have expanded. If you are contacting us about a dog in immediate danger of being put down, PLEASE call Roy Hughes at 817-454-6023 and/or text phone number and ID number for shelter where dog is being held.

Our newest design, which is available in aprons and lunch totes, was created to raise funds for our 2026 Senior Dogs Prescription Needs Campaign. Visit our store here: https://www.bonfire.com/store/tirrrescuestore/

Many of our dogs are seniors and as we all know seniors definitely can have prescription medications that become maintenance medications that they will take until they cross over Rainbow Bridge. And as we have also found, some require prescription food, which is another maintenance item that comes at a high price.

We currently have dogs with the following prescription needs: Carprofen, Gabapentin, Amantadine, Denamarin, Methocarbamol, Incurin, Pimobendan, Furosemide, Enalapril, Galliprant, Adequan, Forti flora, Hill’s Prescription Liver Care food, Hill’s Prescription Digestive Care food, Hill’s Prescription MultiCare Urinary Care food. In some cases, we have multiple dogs benefiting from these medications and/or diet care foods, and they are all getting their needs met based on our vet’s recommendation.

Senior Dogs Prescription Needs Campaign...
As most of our followers know we have taken in dogs through the years that may or may not be placed due to behavioral issues or health issues. Roy has a heart for helping those that find themselves in a life-or-death position and we know some will not be re-homed. We have been fortunate in a few cases to place such dogs. However, many have not found a home and have been with us for months and years. Most of these dogs are seniors and as we all know seniors definitely can have prescription medications that become maintenance medications that they will take until they cross over Rainbow Bridge. And as we have also found, some require prescription food, which is another maintenance item that comes at a high price.

Can I stop here to just tell a quick story about senior dog’s needs? We have on our Amazon Wish List the joint supplement Cosequin (this stuff is not cheap). Most of our dogs need this and based on our donations, we make sure the dogs that need this the most have it however, maybe not the correct dosage, simply due to the cost and availability. The thought was some is better than none. Recently we were blessed with what we consider a huge donation of Cosequin, allowing us to ensure each dog needing it would have the optimum dosage. This was a huge gift to TIRR and every dog that needs it. We recognize this is a maintenance item that will be ongoing but for the immediate future our hearts are happy to know that people out there know what is needed and bless us with the means to make sure they get it. Cosequin will stay on the Wish List, but I just wanted to show how important such donations help the dogs in our program and help us know we have provided what they need via our donors.

Back to our Senior Dog Prescription needs.
Cindy and I know when we take a dog into our program, we are responsible for all their needs, regardless of what they are. We also know that we are dependent upon assistance from our supporters and donors. And we more than recognize that we have been blessed many, many, many times over by our followers and supporters.

Donations for our senior meds/prescription foods would be so appreciated. Their needs are most always long-term so any donations, one-time or recurring, will make a huge difference to us. Blake, Butterfly, Browni, Sapphire, Buda, Thunder, Leeu and many others would all benefit from your support.

Operation Ridgeback Recovery. Everyone has come to our aid once again. Volunteers and donations!
TIRR Rescue was pleased to have volunteers (Dave, Vicky and Meg) and of course, our kennel helpers, Amber and Will, available on Monday to assist with the clean-up from storms we suffered on Saturday night. There was a massive amount of work accomplished in this one day. Downed trees chopped up, dead trees that were about to fall were cut down and a massive amount of tree debris was cleaned up yesterday. Are we back to normal? NO… but we made a huge dent on Monday and continuing efforts to clean-up will be ongoing this week.
We have so many people to thank for this recovery effort. First, Crystal, who recognized immediately that we needed help and proceeded to take action. Michele, as always, recognizing the need also and for helping get the news on social media. Dave, Vicky and Meg for making the long trip out to spend the day, in a sweltering heat (93 degrees, a record!), to get the clean-up underway. Thank you, Meg, for the perfect lunch (including cookies). And last, but not least, our social media friends and supporters who graciously donated a ton of goodies from our wish list.

I believe I can validate this with some authority.

TIRR Rescue has long been the sanctuary for “the old, the crippled and the crazy”. Over the years, though I have favored the “crazy” the “old” have become dominant. As with the sanctuary dogs it is with me. As generations have past the years have past for me. I have often said “these dogs do more for me than I could ever do for me”. This holds now more than ever.

I so wish more people would consider older dogs. It should be the quality of years over the quantity of years spent with a dog.

Everyone at the shelter kept pointing us toward the puppies.

We kept going back to kennel 14.

He was eight years old, grey around the eyes, and the quietest dog in the building.

He looked at us like he had given up expecting anything.

We took him home on a Tuesday.

He slept through the whole first night like he had finally exhaled.

He only had two years left. They were the best two years of his life. And theirs. 🐾🩶
