Meet Aura…

A small mixed breed, 3-year-old, spayed female of 34 lbs. She is current on vaccinations, on HW preventive and ready to go home. Aura was found abandoned on or near Hwy 114 in Aurora, Texas. A passer-by thankfully picked her up and dropped her at a local veterinarian’s office. TIRR Rescue has taken her into our program and are looking for a home for her. She is well behaved, housebroken and precious. Did I say precious – she is the cutest, happiest girl you have every seen. It is apparent she has been in a home and loves her humans.

It is with very sad hearts that TIRR announces that our sweet Browni took her last breath on this earth at 3:58pm Friday September 25, 2026. She was always very nervous of the vet’s office, so we opted to have her make this Rainbow Bridge transition at her home which we refer to as her “lair”. We have lost lots of dogs over the years and some may think this is “something that comes with the territory”. Losing even one
dog is emotionally heart wrenching. Sometimes we lose a dog that truly feels like our hearts are literally broken and little Browni was one of these! The tears are tears of sadness that we have lost her, but tears of happiness to know that TIRR Rescue played
a huge role in giving this little lost dog a beautiful life. TIRR has taken in a lot of very broken dogs over the years, both physically and emotionally. Cindy & I both agree, Browni was the most “shutdown” dog TIRR has ever rescued. So, seeing Browni as a
happy girl simply makes our hearts overflow with love.

As we were pondering about a eulogy for Browni, two people came into the scene, Crystal and Amber. Crystal was instrumental in saving Browni from the wild and getting her to TIRR and Amber was instrumental in saving Browni’s heart and soul. Both ladies have written some powerful words for Browni, and we feel they have captured her life; not much more we can add.

Amber’s “Sweet Browni” Story...

Browni is truly a special story. As I was telling Eric that she would be leaving us today, he heard how she was the epitome of TIRR and what strength and resilience and just the wave of healing a dog can do there. She was the vision of y’all’s purpose.

I remember when she came, Cindy let me know that y’all had a new arrival; just a little brindle, absolutely no ridgie to her, but she needed the rescue’s help. She was just sunken, her skin, fur, eyes and her soul. Would only eat in bed because she couldn’t muster more. My job was to sit and talk to her then, make her feel
safe.

Three and a half years later, still in that same run (her choice). Perky ears, silky fur, prissy toes, and the brightest dark eyes. And her soul… the sassiest! Now, she ate in her bed if she had to. She loved hanging with the senior “B Team”. And she loved that the whole kennel was her personal game of hide and seek.

She had made it. She overcame it all, her heart issues that required medication and special feeding, her stroke. She was able to shine because she had a home at
TIRR rescue. She was able to depend on us… Roy, Cindy, Angela, Gail, Amy, Lucy, Miguel, Luther, Will, Katherine, every volunteer, and person who donates.

I know I say Dexter is my ❤️ dog but she was truly my treasure. Thank you for giving Browni a graceful goodbye. I am so proud that on her final day, I got to care for her all day, and sit with her, talk with her, and I know she was happy and
safe.

North Texas Giving Day 2026 is in the books now registering a total of $23,002.00.

Once again, “thank you” seems so insignificant compared to your generosity. We are so happy with the results and know that you guys are the only reason we can continue our rescue/sanctuary efforts for Ridgebacks and other large breed dogs. Cindy and I want to thank you for believing in us and for supporting TIRR Rescue. You are all guardian angels!

The 2026 North Texas Giving Day Campaign will bring not only the $23,002 into next year’s budget, but it also brings in several donations that did not make into the 9/17/26 totals. We have $7,500 additional donations contributed to this Campaign, for a total of $35,502, making this the largest donations in our history with Community Foundation’s NTXGD. Reaching 71.04% of our original $50,000 goal is tremendous AND we are very happy to have this to step into 2027. We will of course continue with our fundraising efforts during the 4th quarter of 2026.

How could we close out this Campaign without recognizing Michele. Thank you, Michele, for everything you did to ensure, once again, TIRR Rescue was a part of this NTXGD Campaign. Thanks for using your skills and passion to make sure TIRR is seen in the social media world!

Today is the day! North Texas Giving Day determines not only TIRR Rescue’s immediate future, but it also determines the quality of life for our sanctuary dogs and life itself for the last chance dogs we will have the ability to help. Without your support we can accomplish little, if anything, and with each passing year the financial burden of maintaining our standards becomes ever more difficult.
Though the increased cost of caring for so many challenging dogs would seem to be our greatest challenge it is not. Our greatest challenge is time. The needs of sanctuary dogs increase with each day that passes and the physical abilities of Cindy and I decrease. I am 76 years old and most days I feel 92. I have acknowledged the limitations the years have placed on my abilities. We have been fortunate to have a couple of people who have maintained our standard and, in some areas, raised that standard. Amber and Will have worked far in excess of their compensation. However, everyone has expenses and their efforts must be compensated to at least a reasonable degree. When combined with all other expenses our needs require we reach further and wider for support. I cannot ask more of our adopters and long-term supporters, however I do ask you share our needs and accomplishments with as many other caring people as you possibly can.
