A Red Flag Warning is in effect from 12AM Thu - 10AM Fri for the Sierra and adjacent foothills. Gusty east to northeast winds, low daytime humidity and very poor overnight recoveries will lead to Critical Fire Weather conditions. Remember to practice fire weather safety.

Due to current fire weather conditions, we are cancelling the Rambling Prescribed Fire project. This project, in conjunction with the Butte County Fire Safe Council, aims to treat 13 acres in the upper Magalia area, adjacent to Paradise Lake. We will reschedule this project when conditions are favorable.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the 2nd Annual Butte County Prepared Fair in Oroville last Saturday! A special thanks to Kim Preston and the Kelly Ridge Firewise volunteers for bringing it all together, the CCC Corps Members for lending a hand, the Boy Scouts for opening the day with the flag ceremony, and every partner who shared their time and expertise.

As we close out Fire Prevention Week, we’re reminded that prevention starts with community: neighbors creating defensible space, partners caring for healthy forests, and all of us showing up for each other year-round.

See you in 2027!

Last week, the CAL FIRE/Butte County Unit conducted a prescribed broadcast burn on a BCFSC project unit in the Paradise Lake and Rambling Way area, and Zeke Lunder of The Lookout documented the burn on video. Thanks Zeke!

This unit received initial entry treatments in 2020 with biomass removal and in 2022 with mastication. Prescribed fire is the next step in maintaining this project, which sits in a tactically important location for protecting Magalia. Well-maintained fuel breaks give firefighters a safer buffer, better access, and less fuel to contend with if a wildfire comes through. Prescribed fire under planned conditions is one of the most effective ways we can reduce wildfire risk to the communities we live and work in.

Thank you to the CAL FIRE/Butte County Unit team for their work on this burn. Watch the video here:

SB 973, the Wildfire County Coordinator Program bill, was signed into law yesterday by Governor Gavin Newsom!

Wildfire County Coordinators have brought partners together, advanced wildfire mitigation projects, and built the capacity needed to move beyond planning to tactical implementation. In Butte County, our County Coordinator is the foundation that supports the Butte County Collaborative Group, our Firewise USA communities, and education programs county-wide.

This is a win for Butte County, and were grateful to California Fire Safe Council , Megafire Action, and CAL FIRE for making it happen.
