When you work in the animal rescue field, you don't often get to see the best of people (hence the reason most animal rescuers I know prefer the company of animals to people). That being said, every once in a while we are reminded that some people are just absolutely amazing. We met one such couple this past winter and are so excited for the rest of our farm family to meet them too.
If you live in Palm Bay you see the exponential growth. The sound of dump trucks slamming and trees being felled is pretty much the norm now in between the police sirens as we watch developers clear cut all the remaining lots. The farm has tried to save the lots around its borders over the years and our letters and calls were always met with silence or astronomical prices and we watched the trees fall and the foxes and tortoises that blessed our farm each year with babies disappear. When we figured all hope was lost of saving any of them, one family saw the value in our farm and in NOT developing their beautiful, treed lot. A lot that was passed down to them from their grandfather John Trone.
So bring those hooves, paws and wings together for James and Lois Kubitschek. This amazing couple has generously donated their beautiful lot to the farm where the trees will remain up and the wildlife that calls it home will remain safe. It's been harder to have faith in humanity this year in particular, but this couple has truly restored ours. They will be visiting each year and we are beyond excited to add them to our farm family. So thank you James and Lois in seeing past the developer's dollar signs. Your grandfather's lot will forever stay wild with those beautiful trees providing decades of future shelter and shade for all to enjoy.
We would also like to thank Sergio Muniz a local lawyer who helped the sanctuary draft up the legal agreements. Please consider him for future legal advice, he went above and beyond to help us with our unique transaction.
