The Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center building will be closed Friday, June 19, in honor of Juneteenth.
Our trails will remain open from dawn to dusk!
We will reopen on Saturday, June 20. See you then! 🐣

At Audubon, we encourage beachgoers to “Share the Shore” with our beach nesting birds. Join Audubon and Town of Hempstead staff on a beach walk through Lido Beach to learn about priority beach nesting birds that call it home.

Binoculars are provided!

We're kicking off our Be a Good Egg program on June 6th and we need volunteers! Be a Good Egg volunteers will spend the summer on Long Island beaches interacting and educating the community about the importance of protecting Long Island nesting shorebirds!

Earlier this month, the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center held it's annual Shorebird Sign Ceremony!

TRSAC's Education team works with local school districts to teach bird lessons to 3rd and 4th graders. Most recently, students learned about endangered shorebirds, like the piping plover. Over 200 students submitted artwork promoting shorebird conservation and 45 were selected to be printed on weatherproof signs and displayed at Sunken Meadow State Park, Stehli Town Beach, Centre Island Town Beach, and West Meadow Beach! Join the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center for a post holiday beach cleanup on Tuesday, 5/26 from 5pm-8pm at Tobay Beach. Gloves and bins will be provided, but if you have your own, please feel free to bring them. Please dress for the weather, since we will be outside for this event.

We’re hiring! 📢 The Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center is looking to bring on a Habitat Program Technician to keep our gardens, grounds, and the birds and wildlife that rely on them healthy throughout the summer and fall!

Tasks include caring for our expansive native plant garden, removing invasive plants across the property, working with an amazing crew of volunteers, and supporting larger garden and outreach projects—all actions that make a big difference for the people and pollinators that rely on our habitat each year.

This is a Part-time (21 hours per week), seasonal position that runs from May 26-August 30, 2026
