At our recent meeting, we had the pleasure of hearing from Jeff Davis, who is not only a dedicated Rotarian but also a proud volunteer with the Owen County Volunteer Fire Department. Jeff shared highlights from the Fire Department's recent annual Fish Fry fundraiser and the incredible support it received from our community. Thanks to that support, the event was a great success! The team served over 300 meals, using 14 boxes of fish, and offered a delicious menu that included BBQ sandwiches, frog legs, and hot dogs for the kids. Events like this remind us of what makes our community special, people coming together to support those who serve and protect us every day. We are grateful for the hard work and dedication of our local firefighters and everyone who helped make this event possible.

Rotary Club member Larry Ayers had the pleasure of presenting a check to Bonnie Streusel in support of a wonderful educational program Pioneer Kids Day on August 8th. 2026.

This program brings history to life by teaching kids how early settlers lived in the 1500s—giving them a hands-on opportunity to learn about daily life, survival skills, and the challenges people faced during that time.

We’re proud to support initiatives that inspire learning, curiosity, and a deeper appreciation for history in our community’s youth.

On April 13th, Rotarian Bob Cull welcomed Lyndsi McNally, Governance and Legislative Affairs representative/ CHW and Cynthia Beckham, Community Health Worker Coordinator at Three Rivers District Health Department. We appreciate their presence and the valuable insights they shared regarding their professional expertise and dedication to community service. They introduced the Sweet Owen Hub, a recovery community center that offers a unique peer-led approach focused on connection and support rather than mere correction. The center's services include recovery meetings, harm reduction services, health coverage and benefits enrollment assistance, and life skills support. The Sweet Owen Hub is accessible to all community members seeking support, resources, and connection. For more information, please visit www.trdhd.com/harmreduction/sweet-owen-hub, review their page, or visit their location at 1005 Hwy 22 East, Owenton, Kentucky. We encourage sharing this information to support those who may benefit from these services.

On March 30th., Rotarian Mike Cobb, President and CEO of Owen Electric, introduced Safety Manager Cody Beckham. Together, they delivered an engaging and informative presentation “Stay Alert This Spring!”
As storms can develop quickly throughout March and the spring months, staying informed, preparing ahead, and knowing how to respond are essential to protecting yourself and your loved ones. Their unique Project Power Town demonstration illustrated, on a small scale, how taking a few simple precautions can save lives.
They also shared important safety reminders:
Stay informed and prepared before storms strike.
Keep safety at the top of your preparedness plan.
Watch for debris, broken limbs, and hazardous conditions after a storm.
Treat downed or low-hanging power lines as energized and dangerous—always stay away.
Cody Beckham has presented this project at local schools, helping raise awareness about storm safety. The organization has achieved an impressive milestone of 680 days without lost-time accidents.

The Owenton Rotary Club recently hosted its annual Speech Contest, one of the highlights of our Rotary year. This event provides an opportunity to hear outstanding presentations from our local high school students on topics related to Rotary’s mission and values.

This year’s contestants were Skylar Hudnall, Emily Brock, and Charleigh Wright. Each student delivered an impressive speech, making the judges’ decision especially challenging due to the high level of preparation, poise, and competency demonstrated by all three participants.

Charleigh Wright was selected as this year’s winner following strong competition and will represent our club at the Sectional competition in April. We wish her continued success at Sectionals and in all of her future endeavors.

The Owenton Rotary Club will be partnering with Kentucky Changers by helping to pick up and deliver building materials to various project sites throughout our community. I neglected to post this following our Rotary meeting on November 17, 2025, but it deserves to be shared. Our presenter and speaker that day was Margina King, Director of the Owen County Senior Center. Margina is an exceptionally caring and dedicated individual who truly loves the work she does. Her passion for serving our seniors is evident in everything she shared with us. We at the Rotary are grateful not only for her presentation, but also for the privilege of having her as a member of our club. She spoke about the many services and activities she provides for our seniors, and it was clear just how much joy she finds in making a difference in their lives.
