Michelle is another amazing OSHRM Board Member! We are thrilled to see her recognized! 🎉

Our HER OBKY series continues with Michelle Drake, another woman helping strengthen our community and workforce.

Michelle serves as Director of Workforce Development at the Green River Area Development District (GRADD), where she has spent more than three decades helping individuals gain the skills and opportunities needed to succeed in the workforce. A graduate of Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work, Michelle has dedicated 31 years at GRADD supporting job training programs and workforce initiatives that benefit both job seekers and employers across the region.

Michelle is especially passionate about helping individuals returning to the workforce after incarceration. She believes people deserve a second chance and that communities are stronger when everyone has the opportunity to contribute. Her work in reentry and workforce development reflects a broader commitment to strengthening families, employers, and the future workforce.

In addition to her professional work, Michelle stays actively involved with organizations that support workforce development and community opportunity throughout the region.

Today we’re proud to recognize another woman who is , Katie Sandefur!

Katie serves as Human Development Business Partner at Metalsa's Owensboro Plant, bringing nearly two decades of HR experience, including 13 years in manufacturing across the aluminum and automotive sectors. A graduate of Western Kentucky Universitywith a bachelor’s degree in business, Katie holds the SHRM-SCP (Senior Certified Professional) credential and is dedicated to supporting employees and strengthening workplace culture.

Katie is passionate about connecting industry with educational and community partners to strengthen workforce development pathways. She currently serves as Foundation Director for the O-SHRM-Owensboro Society for Human Resources Management and sits on the GO FAME Board. Through her leadership and collaboration with regional partners, she continues helping build stronger workforce opportunities across our region.

I've been in contact with SHRM leaders and members from Southeastern Kentucky, and the reports from Pulaski and Laurel Counties are heartbreaking. The extent of the damage is staggering, and communities are facing a long road to recovery. To provide immediate and long-term support, we are encouraging financial contributions through the United Way of Laurel County, which has been designated by local leadership as the official disaster recovery partner. This organization has a strong track record and deep roots in the community.

How to Support:
United Way of Laurel County - Long-Term Recovery Fund
100% of donations will stay in Laurel County, with zero administrative fees
Funds will be used for both immediate needs and long-term recovery
Relief efforts include housing support, homelessness prevention, home repair, children’s services, and more
