Thank you 🌠Tom McEnteer for providing me with the significant historical information about the importance of railroads in Owego, New York from which I drafted a resolution to be passed by the 💥Village of Owego Trustees which was presented to the Union Pacific Railroad by 🌠Mayor Mike when the UP 🤩"Big Boy" Steam Engine came through Owego this past week. Thousands turned to celebrate and witness this wonderful historic visit. HISTORY MATTERS EVERY DAY ! 😍

OFA Graduating Senior 🌠Evelyn Howe Gave Back To Owego ! 💥

This past May, we presented four graduating seniors at Owego Free Academy with the David P. Beere Family Scholarship: Carsten Crawford, Myla Yartz, Tatum Kowalski, and Evelyn Howe. 💥These standout young women are following in the remarkable footsteps of David Beere, Wall of Fame honoree OFA Class of 1935. David had a wonderful heart, mind, spirit..and sense of humor..and his senior year in high school he was voted "best dancer".

Born and raised in Owego, New York, he graduated from Syracuse University in 1940. When the United States entered World War II, he entered the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. A few months later, he went out to sea on the tanker “Texas Sun.”

🌠Evelyn Howe, Class of 2026 at Owego Free Academy, received the 💥David P. Beere Family Scholarship and accepted the Bassett Challenge to give back a couple hours of service to her Community to say thank you for its support. In her own words:
💥” Good afternoon and I hope all is well! I am following up with my picture for the senior giveback opportunity. I chose to volunteer at the concession stands for the Owego Little League this past week. My apologies for the picture not being the most interesting; it was very busy while I was volunteering and there wasn’t a clear opportunity to take a picture with the other volunteers I was with. Despite that, it was a very fun experience to volunteer in customer service and I was able to meet many Little League parents who were wonderful people!

💥I would also like to thank you for the generous scholarship that will help me in my future endeavors as well as the opportunity to learn about some very honorable people of which the scholarships were made for. Hearing about their stories and the history of Owego was unforgettable and most importantly, inspiring to each and every one of us.

🌠Hunt Chio received the 💥2026 Dr. William Hewitt Bassett Scholarship at Binghamton High School from the Charles H. Bassett Youth Foundation based in Owego, New York.
💥He accepted our " Senior Give Back Challenge" and in his own words 💥: " Good morning, I am one of the recipients of the Bassett Scholarship at Binghamton High School. For the Senior Give Back Challenge, I volunteered at my local Budget Vote & Board of Education Election last month. Me and my friend’s job was to ask voters if they wanted to complete an optional survey. I have attached the picture below.”

Thank you 💥Anchorage Assembly members for honoring my 55 years of service at your meeting Tuesday evening. It has been 😍easy to love Anchorage Alaska since I came there in August 1976 from Syracuse, New York and it has given me a lifetime of community service and community building which has forever linked me to 🌠“The Greatland “! ♥ I will take the Alaskan Spirit with me wherever I go !

Bassett Friends of CHB Youth Foundation in Owego, New York is asked to accept the 💥Bassett Challenge and perform a💥 "Senior Give Back" of a couple hours of volunteer service to their community to say thanks for providing years of support and an excellent public education. ♥

🌠 Havonna White received the 💥2026 Elizabeth Ann And Mable Bond O'Donnell Scholarship at Herkimer High School and here is her giving back in her own words:
💥 “Hi, my name is Havonna White and I received a 2026 CHBYF Scholarship. I am emailing my photo for the volunteer service. My school (Herkimer) did a fundraiser/ I volunteered to help out for a kids night out, the event lasted a little over two hours and we played with the kids, had a concession stand, and did a bunch of events with them so that was my service I did in my community. I also submitted proof of my college which is HCCC (Herkimer County Community College) that I’ll be attending in the fall. "

💥Great Job, Havonna ! Best wishes for an enjoyable end to your last HHS year as you journey on ! Thanks for giving back to Herkimer and helping with the kids night out .😍

💥 “ Me and some of the other kids from Binghamton High School went to the Discovery Center and helped plan and coordinate a fun day for the community to come in and enjoy with us! “
