Today, 6 dedicated members of the Tioga Central FFA chapter kicked off their day bright and early—heading out at 5:00 AM to the New York State Fair to compete in the Livestock Evaluation Career Development Event (CDE)! 🐄🌅

Our Senior Team—Jeremy Cleveland, Cheyenne Moyers, Jacob Tiffany, and Bella Pursell—and our Junior Team—Alexis Kelley and Mary VanDusen—represented our chapter with pride and professionalism.

The Livestock Evaluation CDE challenges students to closely evaluate classes of livestock such as cattle, sheep, and swine. Members learn how to assess structural correctness, muscling, balance, and overall quality, then justify their placings through written and oral reasons. This contest pushes students to think critically, make confident decisions, and communicate effectively under pressure.

These are more than just competition skills—livestock evaluation builds real-world abilities that translate into careers in agriculture and beyond. Students develop decision-making skills, attention to detail, public speaking confidence, and industry knowledge that are essential whether they pursue animal science, agribusiness, or any leadership role.

After their early start and a full day of competition, members had the opportunity to explore the fair and celebrate their hard work and we even got the pleasure to run into our newest Alumni Eden Cooper setting up her dairy display!

We are proud of these members for their commitment, teamwork, and willingness to grow. Great job representing Tioga Central FFA! 💙💛🐖 🐑 🐐

And we are off again! A bright and early start for our second day of fair CDE’s!

Yesterday, two of our teams traveled to the Great New York State Fair to compete in the Wildlife Management Career Development Event (CDE)! 🌿🦌

The Wildlife Management CDE, is an FFA State level competition that challenges students to apply their knowledge of habitats, species identification, conservation practices, and wildlife management techniques. Competitors work through hands-on stations that may include identifying animals and signs, evaluating habitats, and solving real-world environmental scenarios—putting their classroom learning into action.

We are proud of our Senior Team: Jacob Tiffany and Jed Decker, and our Junior Team: Alexis Kelley and Mary Van Dusen for representing our chapter!

After competing, students had the chance to explore the fairgrounds, taking in the incredible agricultural diversity the fair has to offer. Of course, no trip would be complete without some classic fair food—tator tot buckets and loaded fries were definitely a highlight! 🍟

Great job to all who competed and represented our chapter so well
