In celebration of Flag Day, the VFW and American Legion held a Flag Retirement Ceremony to respectfully dispose of unserviceable flags. Following the ceremony, a delicious meal was provided by the Veteran's Affairs office and VFW Auxiliary.

It is an honor to be able to continue serving this great nation in this way. 🇺🇲

June 14 is Flag Day.

It marks the day in 1777 when the Second Continental Congress adopted the American flag as the official flag of the United States.

Since then, the flag has become more than a symbol. It represents the freedoms we enjoy, the unity of our nation, and the sacrifice of the men and women who have served to protect it.

Every stripe tells part of the story.
Every star represents a state in the union.
And every time we raise the flag, we are reminded that freedom has always come at a cost.

Flag Day is a chance to pause and reflect on what the American flag stands for courage, service, sacrifice, and the enduring spirit of this country.

At TVP, we believe the flag should always point us back to gratitude. Gratitude for those who served. Gratitude for those we’ve lost. And gratitude for the freedoms we should never take for granted.

🇺🇸 Today, we Honor the flag and all it represents.

The ceremony will start at 5 o’clock. At the VFW post 2237 in Oskaloosa. A meal will be provided after the ceremony approximately at six.

This group of Oskaloosa Senior High students (plus many more that are not pictured) helped veterans create this year's Avenue of Flags and place small American flags on numerous Veteran's graves. 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲

For years now, many students under the direction of teacher, Kim Shepard Gile, have assisted in honoring our fallen in this way.
We are forever grateful for the dedication and support they provide. ❤️
