It was a beautiful day to celebrate life 💚
90 birthday gift bags, 83 blankets, lots of knit hats, sunglasses and of course cupcakes and ice cream were available to the guests at our biannual group birthday party. We're so grateful to Helping Hands of Our Lady of Lourdes for letting us set up today and join them in serving others. They set up every 3rd Saturday of the month and serve a hot breakfast with coffee, showers, clean clothes , haircuts and more. They had a table set up near us where people could sign up for special requests like bicycles, tents, sleeping bags, etc.
A special thanks to Stetson Baptist Church and Marjorie Orr Savage for the delicious 😋 cupcakes and ice cream!
And as always, to Ormond By The Sea Lions Club for your time and support 💛
After the party, we still had some gifts, cupcakes and blankets leftover so we drove around looking for more people. We found several. While we were at a gas station gifting the items, a generous lady came over and donated $35! 🤗

We've been out all week providing hats, socks, gloves, jackets, snacks, water, toiletries and blankets. We're very low on gloves (unisex works best), emergency hot hands/feet, water, healthy snacks (to keep the body fueled) and mens hats. We're completely out of emergency blankets. If you'd like to help us help others, here's our website with links to both item donations collection sites and how you can help monetarily. 🥶 we were able to supply the homeless with many blankets today, thanks to you! Some didn't even know that it's going to be cold tonight.
We'll be out there again tomorrow looking for more people to cover. 💚

With cold temperatures expected to arrive this evening, community organizations across Volusia County will operate cold-weather shelters from the nights of Monday, Jan. 26, through Wednesday, Jan. 28, to support individuals without adequate heating or housing.

📍 The Bridge (Neighborhood Center)
421 S. Palmetto Ave., DeLand
🕡 Doors open: 6:30 p.m.
☀️ Guests may stay until: approx. 8 a.m. with breakfast provided

📍 East Volusia (coordinated by Halifax Urban Ministries)
Halifax Urban Ministries partners with local churches and nonprofit organizations to help connect individuals with safe, warm overnight accommodations. HUM does not operate a shelter directly.

📞 Those needing shelter or transportation assistance should contact HUM at 386-317-5886 as early as possible. When available, transportation may be arranged through VoTran in coordination with community partners.

We are anticipating temperatures to drop to below 40 degrees on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday night. Our cold weather shelter at The Bridge Shelter will be open for individuals seeking a warm place to stay overnight.
