Hey Friends! Did you know....
Our grant funding brings real money into our community. With the support of so many organizations, like Oregon State Fire Marshal, Woodard Foundation, Lane County Public Works and more, in the last six months, we were able to support local businesses like C&D Land and Tree, Highland Groundworks!!, Ashrock, Ponoka Groundworks, Al Kennedy Youth Crew, Five Community members with gig jobs, AND we helped protect the Row River Christian Fellowship/Little White Church (dude, it looks soooo good!) and protect one side of an important substation. Not to toot our own horn, but....

Hey Peeps,
Let's get familiar with this style of wildfire management. RRVCP is interested in all levels of wildfire mitigation and are working on a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) with Oregon Emergency Management (OEM.)
PREVENTION is an important element in a CWPP that our Indigenous People, the Kalapooya people have done for tens of thousands of years. IN OUR VALLEY! LITERALLY> so let's learn about it so we don't freak out when we start talking about it as a community.

Think Tank Tuesday is THE PLACE to get hyper-local and the most current information about what our community is working on. Think of it as an on-going Town Hall, but collaborative and self-led where everybody works together, to their capacity.

TOGETHER WE CAN!

See you this coming Tuesday at Think Tank Tuesday, at 530 at the Little White Church in Dorena, where we will not be talking about Prescribed Burning other than to say "hey! Let's start talking about PRescribed Burning!"

See you there my friends, Laura Bee

BLM is planning on conducting a 40 acre prescribed fire tomorrow, May 1st, 2026 near the intersection of Sterling Creek Road and Griffin Lane. It will be well staffed and monitored. It will also be very visible to the public as it will be close to the main roads. If you have a choice, please avoid the area. If you have to drive through, please slow down and be attentive of fire personnel and resources.

This is what we call “Good Fire” and is an important tool for restoring forest health, wildlife habitat, and protecting the WUI from wildfires.

SAVE THAT MONEY
What does ISO mean and why do I want to send an "ISO letter?"
An ISO rating, issued by the Insurance Services Office, measures how well a community’s fire protection system performs, including the fire department, water supply, emergency communications, and how fast help can arrive.

We have provided you with a link to the ISO letter on our website (and here: https://rowrivervalley.org/iso-letter/) that you can use to inform your insurance company about our current rating.

ISO Letter
What This ISO Letter Means for Our Community
ISO is a company that helps insurance companies understand how well communities are protected from fires. After reviewing our area, ISO gave the Row River Rural Fire Protection District a fire protection rating of:

8B / 10 (effective June 1, 2025)
ISO 8B rating letter https://rowrivervalley.org/iso-letter/

What do those numbers mean?
ISO ratings go from 1 to 10:

1 is the best fire protection
10 means little or no nearby fire protection
An 8B rating means:

Homes and buildings within 5 road miles of a fire station have limited fire protection
This is better than a 9 or 10, but still considered high risk by insurance companies
A 10 rating means:

Homes and buildings more than 5 road miles from a fire station
Fire protection is very limited due to distance
Why does this matter?
Many insurance companies use ISO ratings when deciding insurance costs and coverage
Better fire protection can sometimes mean lower insurance rates
Poorer ratings can mean higher costs or fewer insurance options
Why did ISO give us this rating?
ISO’s rating reflects the fire protection resources we have right now, such as:

Distance to a fire station
Available equipment
Staffing levels
Water supply for firefighting
It does not mean firefighters are not doing their best. It means the infrastructure is limited, especially in a rural area.

How can this improve?
ISO ratings can improve when communities invest in things like:

Building a closer fire station
Improving water access for firefighting
Adding equipment and trained personnel
This is one of the reasons our community is working toward building a new fire station.

One important note
ISO ratings are not safety grades and not laws. They are tools used by insurance companies to estimate fire risk. If our fire protection improves, ISO can review and update the rating in the futu

Do you live within five miles of where the Disston station will be?

If you do, you will SAVE MONEY when it is built. Your taxes can reduced by thousands, so if you INVEST today, you will get that money back in insurance savings once the station is built. This is what has happened for folks near the temporary station down in Dorena.

Donate to the Disston Station on the link below or mail a check to Row River Fire Response PO Box 4, Dorena, OR 97434. We will send you a 501c3 Tax Receipt.

Hi, Oregon.

We're expecting some of the warmest temperatures of the year so far across the state this weekend. The Oregon fire service has been very busy responding to human-caused outdoor fires this spring.

Debris burning? Check and follow your local regulations. We'd prefer you chip, compost, or recycle.

Did you burn debris over the last few weeks? Check on the site again and make sure it is out-out and won't reignite.

Be smart, do your part, and prevent human-caused wildfires.
