🇵🇱 Maja Chwalińska has secured her spot in the 2026 Roland Garros final following a 7-6(4), 6-4 victory over Diana Shnaider! On her incredible run at the French Open so far, the Polish star has taken down Qinwen Zheng, Elise Mertens, Maria Sakkari, Diane Parry, Anna Kalinskaya, and most recently, Shnaider.

🎾 The Grand Finale is set for Saturday, June 6, where Maja Chwalińska will face off against Mirra Andreeva! Once again, we will see a Polish player competing in a Grand Slam final!

Today marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Polish Constitution of May 3, 1791 📜

Adopted in Warsaw 235 years ago, the May 3rd Constitution was the first modern constitution in Europe and the second in the world, following only the U.S. Constitution of 1787. It was a visionary document, establishing a constitutional monarchy and advancing political reforms grounded in the ideals of freedom, equality, and the rule of law.

This landmark piece of legislation reflected Poland’s commitment to democratic values and inspired generations striving for liberty and national sovereignty.

Lights! Camera! Wajda!

In honor of the 100th anniversary of his birth, Poland has officially designated 2026 as the Year of Andrzej Wajda.

“Movie Night with Andrzej Wajda”, held to commemorate the Oscar-winning director’s cultural legacy and marking the centenary of his birth, began on Saturday at the American Polish Cultural Center with a large-scale screening of his final masterpiece, “Afterimage” (Powidoki).

George Kurzatkowski, President of the American Polish Cultural Society, cordially welcomed guests to the APCC and expressed gratitude for their attendance at the Andrzej Wajda commemorative celebration.

Co-presidents of the Kosciuszko Foundation Michigan Chapter, Barbara Wisniewski and Annette Raczkowski, gave attendees a synopsis of the evening’s feature film, “Afterimage”, as well as background on Andrzej Wajda’s filmmaking career.

Richard Walawender, Honorary Consul of the Republic if Poland in Detroit, briefed the audience about characteristics of Wajda films and themes to look for in the movie.

Andrzej Wajda is the only Polish filmmaker to have received an Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement and remains one of the most important figures in international cinema. As a filmmaker, screenwriter, theater director, educator, and democratic opposition activist, he saw film as an artistic, civic, and moral endeavor.

Wajda’s artistic bravery and moral clarity have left a lasting impression on the history of cinema. As Poland and the rest of the world continue to deal with the legacy of the 20th century, Wajda’s work serves as a powerful reminder that cinema, at its best, does more than merely entertain.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our partners, the American Polish Cultural Society and the Polish American Federal Credit Union for their collaborative efforts in making this event possible.

This Year We are Celebrating a Cinematic Legend: 2026 is the Year of Andrzej Wajda!

In honor of the 100th anniversary of his birth, Poland has officially designated 2026 as the Year of Andrzej Wajda. To celebrate his extraordinary talent and lasting impact on world cinematography, we are bringing the festivities to our local community.

Please join us on April 18th for "A Movie Night with Andrzej Wajda." We will be hosting a large-scale projection of his final masterpiece, Afterimage (Powidoki). The film will be presented in Polish with English subtitles.

Admission is FREE, but because space is limited, we kindly ask that you RSVP to secure your seat.

Drinks and finger bite food will be available for purchase.

Z okazji 100. rocznicy jego urodzin, Polska oficjalnie ogłosiła rok 2026 Rokiem Andrzeja Wajdy. Aby uczcić jego nadzwyczajny talent oraz trwały wpływ na światową kinematografię, pragniemy przenieść te obchody tutaj lokalnie.

Zapraszamy Państwa serdecznie 18 kwietnia na „Wieczór Filmowy z Andrzejem Wajdą”. Odbędzie się wtedy projekcja jego ostatniego arcydzieła – filmu „Powidoki” (Afterimage). Film zostanie wyświetlony w języku polskim z angielskimi napisami.

Wstęp jest BEZPŁATNY, jednak ze względu na ograniczoną liczbę miejsc prosimy o potwierdzenie przybycia (RSVP), aby zarezerwować miejsce.

What an incredible afternoon at our “sold out” ‘Painting with a Polish Twist’ event! We’re still buzzing with joy and gratitude!

In an intimate setting, internationally renowned artist, Anna Kozlowski led guests on a creative artistic journey with wine flowing and traditional Polish music softly playing in the background. She provided examples of how to use commonplace, unexpected tools to add an artistic flair to each work of art. By experimenting with texture and depth, guests learned how to create paintings with striking three-dimensional effects.

We were delighted that Anna chose poppy fields as the motif since poppy fields remind her of springtime and beautiful Poland. The red poppy (czerwony mak) is also deeply symbolic of remembrance, sacrifice, and fortitude in Poland.

We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who attended and contributed to make our first “Painting with a Polish Twist” event a success!

A heartfelt thank you to the young people who attended and supported our mission to raise awareness of Polish culture, traditions, and customs. You are the future of Polonia!

Special thanks to our amazing artist, Anna Kozlowski for sharing her expertise and enthusiasm for art with our guests. Her innate teaching instincts were evident as she mentored each budding artist with encouragement and enthusiasm.
