The Michael Cresap Museum was excited to be able to host public tours during the 26th Annual . During the 250th Anniversary celebrations, there were non-stop tours throughout the day.
Very special visitors were Michael Cresap's family, who visited travelling from 15 states and 2 countries for the Cresap Family reunion and the 110th Anniversary of the Cresap Society. It is difficult to put into words what it meant to stand in the same room where everyone's Cresap ancestor made the decision to leave this stone house and his family behind for a higher calling and a greater purpose to lead . Freedom is not free and while Captain Michael Cresap was never able to return here, his family did and we recognize the sacrifices our family made so that we may live in a free country.
We are thankful for those in Oldtown who went the extra mile to welcome the Cresap family. We appreciated Pastor Riggleman of the and his beautiful 250th House Blessing given as the Cresap family gathered together inside.
It was a sweet addition from who created beautiful flower arrangements for three very special local women who helped to save the Michael Cresap House and its history. Knowing the flowers were grown in Oldtown soil on what was or was near the former James Michael Cresap farm, son of Captain Michael Cresap, helped bring deep meaning to this event.
The Museum's Board Members were so happy to hear so many Western Maryland and Hampshire County, West Virginia resident's stories of visits to the historic house during elementary school and wanting to come back, and wanting to bring their children back. Thank you to all who braved the heat and humidity to take the opportunity to stand in a 262 year old house where frontier families stood 250 years ago and turned a dream of freedom into action and action into real sacrifice. Oldtown Maryland was ground zero for the for where a Revolutionary mission began on behalf of all of Maryland in the fight for American Independence.
The Michael Cresap Museum wishes everyone a very Happy Semi-Q! May we all work together to take care of our great nation and see that it survives and thrives for the next 250 years!
