The Michael Cresap Museum was excited to be able to host public tours during the 26th Annual . During the 250th Anniversary celebrations, there were non-stop tours throughout the day.

Very special visitors were Michael Cresap's family, who visited travelling from 15 states and 2 countries for the Cresap Family reunion and the 110th Anniversary of the Cresap Society. It is difficult to put into words what it meant to stand in the same room where everyone's Cresap ancestor made the decision to leave this stone house and his family behind for a higher calling and a greater purpose to lead . Freedom is not free and while Captain Michael Cresap was never able to return here, his family did and we recognize the sacrifices our family made so that we may live in a free country.

We are thankful for those in Oldtown who went the extra mile to welcome the Cresap family. We appreciated Pastor Riggleman of the and his beautiful 250th House Blessing given as the Cresap family gathered together inside.

It was a sweet addition from who created beautiful flower arrangements for three very special local women who helped to save the Michael Cresap House and its history. Knowing the flowers were grown in Oldtown soil on what was or was near the former James Michael Cresap farm, son of Captain Michael Cresap, helped bring deep meaning to this event.

The Museum's Board Members were so happy to hear so many Western Maryland and Hampshire County, West Virginia resident's stories of visits to the historic house during elementary school and wanting to come back, and wanting to bring their children back. Thank you to all who braved the heat and humidity to take the opportunity to stand in a 262 year old house where frontier families stood 250 years ago and turned a dream of freedom into action and action into real sacrifice. Oldtown Maryland was ground zero for the for where a Revolutionary mission began on behalf of all of Maryland in the fight for American Independence.

The Michael Cresap Museum wishes everyone a very Happy Semi-Q! May we all work together to take care of our great nation and see that it survives and thrives for the next 250 years!

The Michael Cresap Museum was pleased to recently host a private tour for a news writer from the Brunswick News-Journal
and a C & O Canal researcher.

They visited Oldtown from Brunswick, Maryland, south of Frederick. Writer John Caves sought out the Michael Cresap Museum to feature in his "Day Trips from Brunswick" series that encourages tourism in the surrounding areas, with a special focus along the C & O Canal.

They also paid a visit to the Thomas Cresap gravestone and enjoyed lunch in Oldtown at the SchoolHouse Kitchen

If you visit the Brunswick News-Journal's website at
https://www.brunsnews.com/
and find their Current Issues section and in the May edition, page 17 you'll see the Michael Cresap Museum article.

The Museum's Board of Directors are pleased that visitors from many
different areas are interested in touring the museum, and are excited to see the historic home in all its glory, standing watch over Oldtown, Maryland for two and half centuries.

As we remember those who gave all this Memorial Day, we are preparing to celebrate the 250th of the country they died for.

Calling all Cresaps for the Cresap Reunion and calling all those who wish to celebrate the 250th where the commitment to courage and country happened.

We are grateful for the many Thomas and Hannah Cresap descendants who gave all and may their memory be eternal. Wishing everyone a peaceful Memorial Day.

There is no better way to honor their sacrifice then to celebrate the upcoming 250th Anniversary of the country they died for.

Our final plans are taking place for our country's 250th, the 110th Anniversary of the Cresap Society and the Michael Cresap Museum opening for the Oldtown Summerfest.

Hurry! We were able to obtain a one-week only extension (this is it) for a group discounted rate on your hotel room! June 25-28th. Watch for the latest bulletin announcement with more info this week.

Captain Michael Cresap's important mission was no doubt influenced by traits he learned from his strong father and also his strong mother. His mother's story was honored for Women's History Month. We are thrilled to be able to continue to share it both in writing and in person.

Hannah Johnson Cresap was more than the wife of the famous frontiersman, Thomas Cresap, but also a leader in her own right. Born in Maryland in 1705, Hannah helped guide her family through frontier conflict, burning homesteads, and life along the early Marylandโ€“Pennsylvania border.

Three centuries later, her story of resilience and leadership still inspires. Read more about this remarkable matriarch in our latest blog post, directly from her eighth-generation great-granddaughter: bit.ly/4bf4Hjg.
