Please ccontact your state senator this week (before Thursday) regarding support for SB 601, calling for a death penalty moratorium —the best abolitionists can hope for in the present legislative environment.
Please call your senator, especially if you are in a rural area of the state, and introduce yourself to the executive assistant by giving your name and voting address.
Be kind and courteous in stating that you are calling to ask Sen. “name” to vote yes on SB 601, and to sign on as a co-author. If the senator supports the bill, thank the EA and sign off.
If the EA says the senator is undecided, then ask that the senator simply abstain from voting.
Please also feel free to share with the EA your thoughts or a personal story about why a moratorium is needed.
Always follow up all calls to elected officials with an email or hand written note.

This is a call for supporters to start actively lobbying for passage of SB 601. Now is the time. Reportedly, they are going to vote on the senate side in March. The proposed legislation calls for a two-year moratorium on Oklahoma’s death penalty while a task force determines the “degree to which the state has implemented recommendations from the 2017 Oklahoma Death Penalty Review Commission." To get it out of the senate we need to contact those legislators who will be voting.
