Hey fungal friends, greetings from the Coastal Shores and Spores Mycological Society based here in Gray's Harbor County, Washington. Did you know, we're an affiliate of the North American Mycological Association , which is a fantastic 501(c)3 that has been promoting, pursuing and advancing the science of mycology since 1959!

Spotlight Barb:
Barbara A. Smith is a member and board member at large with our club, Coastal Shores and Spores Mycological Society . She's also the founder and director of our big fall event: the Quinault Rainforest Mushroom Festival which is always the first weekend in October during the height of fall mushroom season here in the Pacific Northwest.

What she loves about NAMA:
"The Fungi fellowship. There's just so many cool people who are into mushrooms - the science nerds, the artists and creatives, etc. It's just so uplifting when you get to connect with people that are different from you but share the same love and enthusiasm for mycology. It's intriguing to hang out and make friends I wouldn't normally have made. Plus I just love sharing experiences with people and getting out into nature."

In addition to NAMA's continental and regional forays, they produce a fantastic series of Webinars and publish the Mycophile Quarterly magazine and the peer-reviewed journal, McIlvainea. - All freely available to NAMA's members.

We hope you consider joining NAMA today, you can learn more at: https://namyco.org/membership-drive/

Join us tomorrow at the Ocean Shores Library where the talk will be all about matsutake!
That's right, Western Matsutake (Tricholoma murrillianum) is in peak season here, so we've made it our Mushroom of the Month!
Our very own Mo Moss will present on the North American Mycological Association's regional culinary foray at the Oregon Dunes, where the featured gourmet mushrooms were wild foraged Matsutake. She is even presenting the audience with matsutake tastings from a recipe she learned at the foray! Wow!
Then special guest Rose Tursi will present on The Majesty, Mystery and History of Matsutake Mushrooms. Learn all about the OG Matsutake Mushrooms of Japan as well as our own local native species and their rich cultural history right here in Washington State.

You don't want to miss it.

The Quinault Rainforest Mushroom Festival was a great start to all the local mushroom festivals. It is with deep gratitude that we thank our organizers, volunteers, speakers, workshops leaders, vendors, students, teachers, the Quinault community, and attendees.
