Girls, girls, girls we love our sea turtle girls! Our volunteers verified nests 6 & 7!

The nest 6 traditional sponsorship is named “Hope & John's Sea Turtles. In honor of Hope and John Schneider & their 8 Grandchildren: Elise, Marie, Natalie, Brian, Hayley, Braden, Zach, and Janie” sponsored by Heather Arnold and Family.

The Lights Out Sponsorship is “In Memory of Eileen Robertson” sponsored by OIBSTPO team leaders for Todd, Mark and Scott.

The DNA Sponsorship is available on nest 6. If you are interested in this sponsorship, please message us via Facebook.

The 7 nest Traditional, Lights Out and DNA sponsorships are named “Shorely Blessed 2.0” sponsored by Steve and Julie Kinner.

We had an awesome turnout for our first Turtle Talk of 2026. Join us each Monday for this free educational event about sea turtles nesting on OIB.

Each sponsorship is important as funds are dedicated towards supplies needed to protect nests and operation expenses, purchasing wildlife safe streetlights or paying for DNA testing to identify sea turtle moms and dads. All nest sponsorships includes a dedicated sign at the nest when it is verified. For more information, please go to our website https://oibseaturtles.org

May has been a very busy month for our rescue team. They are transporting this sick juvenile Green sea turtle to the The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center. Based on the number of barnacles, this poor turtle has been sick and floating for a while.
Fingers crossed this turtle will do as well as Donut. She has gained 1.5 pounds during her stay at the hospital. Since there are no visible injuries, this sea turtle may mistook plastic floating in the ocean as food. The team selected the name Tapioca for the sweet turtle.

Huge shout out to Makai Brewing Company for their support of both the Ocean Isle Beach Sea Turtle Protection Organization & the Sunset Beach Turtle group. Each year on Memorial Day weekend, they generously donate a potion of the sale proceeds of their Loggerhead beer from the prior year to our groups. We greatly appreciate their support & ask that you kindly support their business year round. Check out their website to see all their great upcoming events.

North Carolina’s coastal shores and beaches are home to endangered sea turtles and one of the widest varieties of birds on the east coast. In order to protect these species, the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is asking for your help.

By sharing information about your recent trip to the coast and related expenditures, you’re helping us understand how visitors interact with our coast and the important role tourism plays in supporting conservation. Your responses will directly inform efforts to protect coastal habitats and the wildlife that depend on them.

This survey should take approximately 5 minutes to complete, and all responses are confidential. If you leave your email address at the end, you will be entered to win one of 5 Visa gift cards.

We’re feeling festive for six years running at the Museum of Coastal Carolina Festival of Trees. Our tree represents sea turtles in perpetual motion just as they are as they crawl to their ocean home. Visitors can bid on and win their favorite tree. Don’t miss your chance to win our tree and place it in your home next Christmas!🎄

🌊🐢 Baby sea turtles in perpetual motion! 🌊🐢

That's one of many charming features you'll see when you visit today's 6th Annual Festival of Trees featured entry presented by the Ocean Isle Beach Sea Turtle Protection Organization (OIBSTPO)!

Illuminated by wildlife-friendly amber lights, this tree celebrates the beloved and endangered sea turtles that OIBSTPO volunteers tirelessly work to protect.

OIBSTPO will receive proceeds from this tree's silent auction to support its mission to provide, through appropriate management activities and education, a safe and protected environment for all sea turtles that frequent Ocean Isle Beach.
