It’s been a rough week here at the farm, and sadly, this morning brought us another heartbreaking loss. 💔
Chelo has passed away.
We were blessed to be there with him when his time came. We watched him walk out and lay down, and at that moment, we knew something wasn’t right. Hunter went to him, laid beside him, and held him as he took his final breath.
As heartbreaking as it was, there was something incredibly peaceful about knowing he did not leave this world alone. He was surrounded by love, comfort, and someone holding him until the very end. ❤️
We know God is in this. We may not understand His plan, and we certainly don't understand why we don't get to keep some of these precious animals but a short time. However, we trust Him even in the hardest moments.
This is the dark side of rescue.
This is the ugly part.
This is the part we never want to talk about, and certainly never want to share.
But it is necessary.
Because rescue isn't only about the happy endings, the adoptions, the new beginnings and the beautiful transformations. It is also about being there when there is nothing left to do but love them, comfort them, and make sure they don't take their final journey alone.
It is the cycle of life.
And while our hearts are broken, we are grateful that Chelo knew love. He mattered. His life mattered. And he will be missed.
To our village — thank you. ❤️
Thank you for carrying us through this incredibly difficult week. Thank you for every prayer, every kind word, every message, every donation, every share, and every bit of encouragement you have given us.
There truly are no words that can adequately express our gratitude. Without you, we could not do what we do.
So today, we simply say thank you.
Thank you for loving our animals.
Thank you for loving us.
Thank you for standing beside Double H Farm & Rescue through the good days and the heartbreaking ones.
We love you all more than you know. ❤️
Please continue to keep us, and all of our animals, in your prayers as we navigate our way through this difficult time.
And Chelo… run free, sweet boy.
You were loved. You were safe. You were not alone.
Until we meet again. 🌈❤️
"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."
— Psalm 147:3
"The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit."
— Psalm 34:18
And perhaps most fitting of all:
"Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God."
— Luke 12:6
Chelo was not forgotten. He was loved, he was cared for, and he was held until the very end. And we trust that he is now in the hands of the One who created him. ❤️
