Ramona is an approximately 8-9 year old, 75lb mixed breed who almost lost her life at Kern County Animal Shelter for the exact reasons dogs like her always do…older, overweight, and not “trendy” 💔

No one was coming for her.

Not because she isn’t amazing…
…but because she didn’t fit the look people scroll for.

Then volunteers gave her a chance, a few Doggy Day Out trips and suddenly the truth came out: Ramona is everything people claim they want in a dog.

Easy. Sweet. Low maintenance. Grateful just to be here 🥹

She may not be your typical bully breed… but at this point she’s basically an honorary bully 😂

She’s got the cutest frosty face and does these tiny toe-tap hops when she’s excited (especially for food or attention)…and it’s impossible not to smile watching her.

She’s:
✔️ House & potty trained
✔️ Crate trained (but would absolutely choose a couch instead 🛋️)
✔️ Great with respectful dogs (medium–XL)
✔️ Calm, easygoing, and zero drama

🧬 Her DNA? Not “designer”… just perfect:
• 41.5% American Pit Bull Terrier
• 16.5% Rottweiler
• 16.2% Chow Chow
• 13.5% German Shepherd
• 12.3% Supermutt

No fancy label. No breeder buzzwords.
Just a really, really good dog.

The kind that gets passed over every single day while people keep searching for something “better.”

Ramona isn’t asking for much…just a soft place to land, good food, and someone to love her for the rest of her life.

After everything she’s been through including being shot with a pellet gun in her previous years, she deserves the best.

This 1-year-old, 47-lb Terrier/Pit Bull mix was found as a stray alongside her sister. She’s still learning that the world can be a safe place, and she’s looking for a loving family who will let her blossom at her own pace. 🥹❤️

✨ Meet Zelda, the 36-pound couch hippo! ✨

At 4–5 years old, Zelda has life figured out: couches are better than dog beds, laps are for snuggling, and personal space is overrated. She’s good with friendly dogs after proper introductions, curious about cats (compatibility still unknown), and a champ for baths, feet, and ears—with a few bonus kisses thrown in!

Sweet, social, affectionate, and low-energy, Zelda is all about leisurely strolls, neighborhood sniffaris, and being your little shadow. Looking for a professional snuggler ready to steal your couch and your heart? Zelda might be your girl!

Lila is a beautiful Mastiff mix living her best life as our resident gentle giant and professional couch potato while she waits for her forever home 💛

This sweet girl is equal parts lover, snuggler, and car-ride breeze enthusiast. If you have a couch and a car window that rolls down halfway… congratulations, you already have two of Lila’s favorite things. She is around 80lbs and 2.5 yrs old!

With new people, Lila is a polite little introvert in a big dog body. She may play it cool at first, but once you pass her vibe check, she’ll wander over for a hand sniff and some gentle pets.

Lila is still very much a baby brain inside a giant body, so she’s working on crate training, impulse control, and remembering that manners matter. She truly wants to be good… sometimes her dramatic side just makes a guest appearance. Structure, consistency, and a confident human are helping her improve every day.

Lila is a mastiff mix, which means she’s a big girl with an even bigger heart. She can be a little unsure of herself at times, but with confident leadership and reassurance she settles in beautifully and bonds deeply with her people.

Because of her size, puppy energy, and chase instincts, Lila is looking for a home without small children or small animals.
