Dear Supporters of the Oak Ridge Lions,

We hope to make our 30th year the best tournament ever!

With that said, the Lions “Tom & Carolyn Brown Memorial Golf Tournament” will be held at Jamestown Park Golf Course…Thurs, Sep 24…1:30 sh***un.

“Swing for Sight” is the Oak Ridge Lions key fundraiser to support programs in our community. One example, your support has allowed us to create the Tranquility Memorial Garden in Oak Ridge Heritage Farm Park (see below).

The attached flyer contains tournament details.

We will accept a maximum of 22 teams to maintain a reasonable pace of play.

To secure your team and/or hole sponsorship you have two options.

Scan the QR code on the flyer below to securely pay for your sponsorship. Remember to include what level…“All-in Supporter”, “Golf Foursome” or “Hole Sponsor”. No need to provide a list of players unless you already know your team.
Reply to this email to reserve your team and/or hole sponsorship and we will send you a link to securely pay with a credit card

We would love to have you join us on Sep 24 at Jamestown Park Golf Course.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you for your support!

Oak Ridge Lions Club "Tranquility Garden" is finishing up the initial phase of construction. We just finished mulching the beds today for a clean crisp look. Things will settle down for the winter and then we will do some more planting of perennials in the spring.
We anticipate adding some purple and white Cone Flowers in several parts of the beds, as well as some other ornamental plants.
The rain we are getting over the next few days is more than welcome for all the thirsty plants. I have been out there every day for the last few weeks hand watering all the plants and trees to keep them viable. We are planning a dedication ceremony soon, and then it will open to the public.
Tranquility Garden is a memorial garden to honor deceased Oak Ridge Lions Club members who have served their community for years. Since our club serves the community in several ways, a portion of the garden will be available to honor loved ones from Oak Ridge residents who have also passed. This will be an ongoing project for years to come.

Still working hard in the garden, just not mine! (Fox Garden) I have started a new project for the Oak Ridge Lions Clubs "Tranquility Garden". It is a memorial to deceased members of our club. It will also include an area where the general public can honor one of their loved ones with a memorial tree or wind chime. In the last two days I have finished up edging the pathway with pavers to better define the planting areas. Yesterday, the stone I had ordered for natural stone benches was delivered. If you look closely at the bench image, you will see the stacking effort. That bench is just dry stacked at the moment to see how well things fit together. Once all the benches are fitted, they will have mortar applied to hold them together firmly. We hope to have a very natural looking and reflective area to honor loved ones who have passed. Honor trees and wind chimes will be available to purchase for honoring those loved ones from a select group of plants on the memorial landscape plan and wind chime list. Another hot day of planting at Tranquility Garden! We spent several more hours today working on Tranquility Garden, a memorial garden in honor of deceased Oak Ridge Lions Club members.

This garden will also have an area and opportunity for the general public to honor a loved one of their own. Honor Trees and Honor Wind Chimes will be available to be selected from a specified list of the landscape plan for this project.

The Honor Trees will be planted to the left and right of the main walkway area. The Honor Wind Chimes will be hung in the existing tree line behind the walkway.

This project is gaining momentum and interest from many. The foundation planting should mostly be in by mid September. A few Honor Trees should follow shortly after. The natural slab/stone benches should be in by mid September as well.

Anyone interested in honoring a deceased loved one through this program, can email me at: [email protected]. If you would just like to make a donation for the project, we are still setting up a method to do that. In the meantime, you can drop off a check at Oak Ridge Town Hall, with Tranquility Garden Project - Attention: Lion Danny marked on the envelope.

Any amount is appreciated, and will go a long way in helping to honor people in the community who have served others, as well as your own special loved one.

Regards,

Danny R Yanusz

At our club meeting tonight we honored our 2025 Scholarship Recipient Addison Ellsworth and got a state legislative update from Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger. The common theme: Oak Ridge and North Carolina have a bright future and the Lions are proud to be part of it.
