The Sarah Shulze Foundation extends our heartfelt gratitude to Assemblywoman Jacqui Irwin for authoring AB1985 that supports the mental health and well-being of student athletes.

Her leadership, compassion, and commitment to protecting young people and empowering families are making a meaningful difference in our communities. We are thankful for her partnership and dedication to ensuring student athletes have the support, resources, and care they deserve.

Together, we can continue building a culture where mental health matters and every student athlete knows they are not alone. 💙

It is always a mix of emotions sharing Sarah’s story with others. Talking about her as a child, sharing pictures with her family and friends is beautiful and sharing her time as a student athlete is hard, knowing how it ended. Yet, we know there is power in sharing her story. There is a purpose and that is to bring awareness to su***de prevention training for students, athletes, parents, coaches and community leaders. We know this would make Sarah proud. Thank you Reese and Quinn Tamburro and Agoura High School’s The Hidden Opponent Club for hosting us in this important discussion.

Today marks four years since we lost Sarah 💙

Not a day goes by that we don’t miss her. In these four years, we have learned so much about su***de prevention and the importance of mental health awareness—lessons we wish we never had to learn, but ones that now drive us forward with purpose.

Today, more than ever, we are motivated to turn pain into hope. We are committed to creating pathways for prevention—helping people recognize the signs, start conversations, and know that support is always within reach.

We want to continue educating teams, schools, and communities about su***de prevention and mental health awareness. And with the support of Jacqui Irwin, we are working to pass legislation in California that would require mental health and su***de prevention training for all college coaches—because awareness and education can save lives.

Our goal is simple: to help ensure that more families don’t have to experience this kind of loss.

We carry Sarah with us in everything we do—and we will keep fighting for hope, for awareness, and for change. 💙

We’re grateful to share a new fact sheet from Jacqui Irwin’s office for AB 1985 – Sarah Shulze’s Law 💙

This thoughtful and comprehensive overview highlights the importance of this bill and its mission to strengthen mental health support for college students. We are deeply thankful to Assemblywoman Irwin and her team for their hard work, care, and commitment to making meaningful change.

As the bill moves forward, it’s critical that we continue to show strong community support. AB 1985 needs letters of support ahead of its next hearing with the Higher Education Committee.

Please take a moment to lend your voice—link in bio to submit a letter of support.

Together, we can honor Sarah’s legacy and help create safer, more supportive campuses for all.

Take action now to support ALL collegiate athletes and their coaching staffs! AB1985 Sarah Shulze’s Law affirms that colleges take mental health as seriously as physical health.

Please write a simple letter on behalf of yourself or your organization (club, sports team, foundation, school, company, etc.) Please submit your letter on official letterhead and cite AB Bill 1985. Please find a sample letter and link to submit in our bio.

AB Bill 1985 requires mental health training for all collegiate-level coaches in the state of California. This bill was one of Sarah Shulze’s dreams as she was deeply passionate about protecting all student athletes and believed strongly in the power of policy reform to improve all lives.

Attending the annual Coalition of Athletic Communities for Mental Health is a special experience. You are surrounded by people doing amazing work in the mental health space for athletes, coaches and athletic communities. It was also an honor to moderate a panel on coaches and mental health with this amazing panel of young coaches, also former teammates of Sarah, a founder of a nonprofit focused on supporting young athletes and started by a former student athlete now MFT therapist and a mother of two student athletes who has gone through tremendous loss and advocated for change by creating the Katie Meyer Law. Other panels included former olympians, NFL players, mental health providers for the US Olympic Teams, as well as former student athletes now therapists, social workers, doctors and psychiatrists. @
