Please join us on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 3 p.m. (an hour earlier than our normal start time) for another exciting concert presented by the dynamic musicians of Trio Celeste. This program will include the Piano Trio by Vasyl Barvinksy, a Ukrainian composer who was arrested as an enemy of the Soviet Union. After his release, he spent the remainder of his life reconstructing music that he had written that had been destroyed--probably by the predecessor to the KGB. We are asking patrons to pay what they can to support our mission of bringing great music to our area, with suggested donations of $25 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $5 for students--but you are welcome even if you cannot afford to pay!

The Epiphany Music Guild is delighted to announce its 2024-2025 season.

If you join the Epiphany Music Guild (you can do so online at https://www.tcote.org/join-epiphany-music-guild/) before September 10, 2024, you will receive an invitation to our Member Appreciation Event on September 15, 2024, which will feature The Alex Frank Trio

The Alex Frank Trio consists of Alex on bass, Graham Dechter on guitar, and Ryan Shaw on drums. The trio has performed all over the world at prestigious venues such as the Lincoln Center, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Royal Albert Hall. The trio can be heard on Michael Buble’s most recent grammy winning record “Higher.” They will present a program of fresh, unique arrangements of American songbook classics. Those who contributed to the EMG between August 1, 2022, and July 31, 2023, are automatically invited, and those who join the EMG before September 10, 2024, will receive invitations to this event and the festive reception that follows.

Other events on our series will be:

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 27, 4 PM
Dyad

Violinist Niv Ashkenazi, who has delighted our audiences in past seasons, has joined with bassonist Leah Kohn to form this innovative new duo. Undaunted by a lack of repertoire for this fascinating combination of instruments, they have reimagined classics and commissioned new works for violin and bassoon. Through engaging, personal performances, they strive to create connections between audience, performers, and music. There will be a simple reception after the concert to greet the artists.

SUNDAY DECEMBER 8, 4 PM
An Advent Service of Lessons and Carols

This service tells a story of God’s work through history through scripture, anthems, and congregational song. It begins with the story of the fall of humanity, continues through the prophets assuring God’s people of God’s love and promising a coming Messiah, and concludes with the Annunciation and Mary’s joyful song of praise. Epiphany’s Parish Choir and Schola lead this service.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 7 PM
A Service of Contemplation and Prayer in the Style of Taizé

In the 1940s, a monastic community in Taizé, France, created a new form of prayer service that was designed to be ecumenical and non-denominational. Brief, easy songs are repeated to create a meditative atmosphere, and are interspersed with readings and silence to encourage contemplation. Led by the Parish Choir, this quiet, reflective service is patterned on the worship practices at Taizé. This service offers worshipers the opportunity to enter into a prayerful experience of God.

SUNDAY, MARCH 2, 3 PM (PLEASE NOTE EARLY START TIME)
Trio Céleste

The great Trio Céleste returns to our series with a program that includes a performance of the Piano Trio in A minor by Ukrainian composer Vasyl Barvinsky. Sentenced to 10 years in a Russian gulag, most of his published works and manuscripts were burned, presumably by the predecessor to the KGB. Upon his release in 1958, he undertook to reconstruct his lost works. Unfortunately, he died before he could complete this effort. This beautiful work will be joined by music of Ireland and Shostakovich.

SUNDAY, MARCH 30, 7 PM
Choral Compline

Compline is a contemplative and richly beautiful service that brings the day to a peaceful close. Liturgically and musically, Compline reached it apex during the Tudor era, when composers like Byrd and Tallis created music for Compline that has been described as “more divine than human.” Using glorious Tudor-era music, our service will be sung, entirely a ca****la, by the Epiphany Schola.

SUNDAY MAY 18, 4 PM
Combined Epiphany Music Guild and Red Door Vineyard Wine Event: Selah Gospel Choir

After thrilling a packed house in early 2023, we present the highly-anticipated return of the Selah Gospel Choir. Since its founding in September of 2007, the Selah Gospel Choir has been a space for people who want to sing gospel music birthed by the spirit of the Black church and the ancestry of the Black community but who are either unable to find it in their home place of worship or do not identify with being in a church at all. Their mission is to uplift and strengthen communities by singing inspiring, soul-stirring gospel music. This Black-, women-, and LGBTQ+-led group features singers with diverse race, age, gender, sexuality, and ethnic identities.

A discounted admission of $10 is available for members of the EMG and the Red Door Vineyard; suggested donations for non-members are $25 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $5 for students. To ensure that there is sufficient food and wine, those who wish to attend are asked to make a reservation no later than Wednesday, May 14, by contacting [email protected], or by calling (818) 991-4797, ext. 26.

Programmed musical selections are subject to change.
